    Physical or phsycological throat issue?

I have had a very strange 'swallowing issue' for almost a year now. I talked to my GP about it and he sent me for a barium swallow which did not show any problems. The issue is hard to describe, and I think it could just be psychological. It's not painful. Sometimes it simply feels like a tickle in my throat, or perhaps something was left behind the first time I tried to swallow, so I swallow repeatedly. Over the past several months I have been conscious of my swallowing. I have tried to let my mind drift to other things, and sometimes it has, but there have also been times when I have thought about my swallowing obsessively. I have done some reading about obsessive compulsive disorder and that has helped, but I haven't been able to fully move on from this issue. I can't stop thinking that there could be something physically wrong with my throat, which makes very little sense, because if there was something seriously wrong surely it would have gotten better or worse by this point, or at least something would have shown up on the barium swallow, instead it has remained constant for the past several months. How do I move on from this? Is there any point in going to an ENT specialist? About a year ago I came down with Tinnitus. I spoke to my GP about it who sent me to an ENT who did a number of things including putting a camera down my throat. He asked me about swallowing issues at that time and I told him I had none, which was true at the time, the swallowing issue began to occur a few months later. I had hoped that given time I would just accept it as normal and move on in my thoughts, and there have been times that that's truly happened. Unfortunately I have yet to fully move on from this. I just don't know what to do at this point.

I'd go back to the ENT just in case. But if testing reveals nothing going on, that should calm your fears.

I second the advice that you see an ENT, and I would say sooner rather than later. I don't say this to frighten you, but I was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer just over three years ago. Symptoms were shortness of breath, tickle in my throat that didn't go away with cough, and somewhat consistent cough. Over the course of a year, I saw six different doctors (PCP (x2), internist, pulmonologist, endocrinologist, urgent care) before finally landing with an otolaryngologist. The previous doctors had done ultrasounds, CTs, spirometry readings, extensive bloodwork, and even ordered a sleep study. The otolaryngologist scoped me in the office and immediately saw a blockage in my trachea. He scheduled an outpatient surgery to dilate and remove what we thought was scar tissue and diagnosed me six days later. Again, I don't say that to scare you or to sound like an alarmist...but had I not trusted my body and persisted in seeing that seventh doctor, my story would've had a much different ending. By the time I was diagnosed, I was stage IVa (locally advanced) and when I asked my treatment team how long I had had cancer they said a year. Exactly as long as my body was signaling me that something was off. Trust your intuition and see it through! You won't find relief from your anxiety until you do. Keep us posted!
