Painful cramps in front of throat

I have seen many post about cramping in front of throat after yawning. This is not what I am experiencing. I have a painful cramp during the swallow at the level of the cricothryoid ligament which is tender to touch. This extends upward towards the hyoid area. Painful as the muscles relax. Throat is not sore but muscles spasm during and after the swallow. What is causing this. It has been going on for 2 days

No pain on the side of throat. Directly center and the muscles feel like they are cramping as I swallow.

I was hoping you would have said only one side, because I had that 2 weeks ago with the pain equal when I was breathing in and out as well as swallowing.
I did have a fungal infection down my esophagus from a new asthma med (breo), but I was waiting for results when the sore throat thing happened.
An antifungal and zantac twice a day helped.
I dont know if it was coincidence, however.

If it hasn't improved at all.... see your doctor and ask for some tests such as throat swab, ultrasound, maybe upper endoscopy, maybe ENT to check with a scope.

Thank you. The cramping has subsided and not as tender to touch. Unless I sneeze then the cramping comes back. Not recalling cramps like before but a pulling of the muscle. I will seek an ENT

I hope its only muscular....maybe try Robaxacet or Robaxin platinum if you can take ibuprofen. Costco brand (back relief) is the best price-wise.
