I don't know what this is, but it has been going on too long

    Hello everyone,
[ ] I come to this place in seek of advice, an answer, or to find someone who has had something similar. For the past 8 months I have been dealing with an issue regarding my throat and I'm desperate for answers. It all started just 15 days after I moved from Houston to Dallas. My brother and I where celibrating my move with beers, chilly dogs (with onions) and some stand up comedy. This is when disaster struck. One of the comedians made me laugh at the exact time I had just swallowed and coughed. All 3 actions happened simultaneously a cough, a laugh, and a swallow. This led to me feeling as if I now had something stuck in the back of my throat. Weeks went by with the feeling of something in my throat but I did not develop any other symptoms like fever or sore throat/voice. It was just uncomfortable all the time unless I was eating or drinking liquid. After about a month or 2 I went to a GP who referred me to an ENT specialist. The ENT doctor visualy inspected and scoped my throat and nasal cavity but nothing was found except a slightly red epiglottis and cobblestoning. The doctor told me to take some Zertex medication and Prilosec for 4 weeks then return if things had no gotten better. I followed my instructions on my medications and found my self in the office 4 weeks later with the same issue going on. The doctor did the same examination and found the same things as before excepts this time the doctor gave me an antibiotic and told me to change my OTC allergy medication to Allegra. Another 2 months went by and I was feeling down and pretty depressed from this condition that was now my every day norm. Slowly my throat starts to return to normal for about 3 weeks and then something else started. I started having a feeling of something in my throat again but not as bad as before and the feeling would come and go through out the day. In the mornings when I wake up I have gunk in the bank of my throat. Sometimes clear with bubbles. Sometimes has some green in there. This would cause my to have an extreme coughing fit for about 7-10 minutes. Coughing and spitting up just clear, bubbly, thick stuff. After that I was okay with only some coughing during the day and soemtimes with that feeling of something in my throat. I now had developed the habit of clearing my throat 45- 70 times a day and swallowing maybe 200 - 300 times a day without anything in my mouth. I have gone back to the ENT doctor after dealing with that for 2 months and I really am starting to get the feeling that this guy has no idea what he's talking about. He put me on a 3 week course of antibiotics and wants to run a sinus xray and allergy test. The only symptoms I now have and have been dealing with up to and including now are a persistent morning cough, constanct throat clearing and swallowing when I get that feeling in my throat and I think thrush of the tongue which has been going on for 4 months. I have no pain or fever. No other fluid coming from my nose. No stuffy or runny nose. No head aches. This whole things is really starting to effect my sleep and mental health but with dallas and lock down and the virus going around, I really don't wanna go anywhere right now. Please, please! If you have a theory or idea of what this is or how I can help myself. I thank you for your time and for anything you may have to say.

Hi...the green gunk is definitely infection. Hope the sinus spray test reveals something...I've never heard of it.
Ask the doc to prescribe for you to try an antifungal to deal with the yeast (which can go down into the esophagus and caused by the antibiotics and steroid spray combo)...been there. Ask for Singulair and stop the antihistamine because it will just dry out the secretions more.
Try a nasal rinse twice a day ... I use the Neil Med squeeze bottle system.

Have you also tried an acid reducer type of med?

    q

I have not. The green in funk is rare. It's almost like liquid boogers in the post nasal drip. Most of the time it's just clear with tiny bubbles in the mucus. Sorry for the miscommunication I meant to say that my doctor wants to do a xray of my sinuses. I will be trying the nasal rinse for sure and will ask for an antifungal. Thank you very much.

What was found to be your issue? Have you suffered from the same thing I'm going through?

Mrhellmore, have you tried deep gargling with 3% hydrogen peroxide?

Re: I don't know what this is, but it has been going on too long

Not exactly, but i have scratched or bruised areas with food or coughing too much and have breathed in a bit of food or spit into my airway or have burped either up into the back of my nose while leaning forward. I do get the feeling that food is stuck on one side or the other in my throat.

I also have esophageal spasming on occasion...and 2 years ago diagnosed with Sjogren's which complicates how things function due to membrane dryness...in addition to reflux. I also have asthma, and one inhaler Breo caused the worst sinus and larynx infection....was great for my asthma tho. Ended up on 2 rounds of antibiotics and then a fungal infection throughout my esophagus. Was a tough time, but at least it eventually got figured out with upper endoscopy and antifungal meds. Was a tough 6 months.

Sinus xrays have always proved positive when I've had to have them, thankfully. When will you be getting the sinus wash?

    q

Oh wow. Sounds like that was not very fun to deal with. I had already order a nedipot before posting yesterday and actually recieved it this morning. I cleaned it and will be doing a rinse shortly with tap water that has been boiled for ten minutes and cooled.

Mrhellmore, 3% hydrogen peroxide is a powerful germ killing antiseptic. I've gargled with it for decades.

I wish I could get some at the moment. All the store in my area are sold out due to the virus.
