    Loss of taste

Has anyone lost their sense of taste after having ear problems? I've been experiencing ear problems and had my deviated septum corrected since the end of August and about 3 weeks in I lost my sense of taste. At first it was gradual and then my tongue felt numb and now nothing. I have lost 26 pounds (not complaining!) but it is frustrating when you are hungry! If I put something in my mouth, I just chew and chew and it won't go down! My ENT says he's "hopeful" it will come back.

    Re: Loss of taste

I have heard that the loss of taste occurs from sustained damaged to the tastebuds on your tongue during surgery. I just had my surgery tuesday, and have noted some loss of taste; but it is not a complete loss... more a muting of the intensity of the taste sensation. Could your stem from damage inflicted during the correction of your deviated septum? I also know that our sense of taste is also linked to our sense of smell... so if that has changed for you it could be the cause of you loss of taste as well.

In all cases most peoples taste begins to return gradually... and returns fully in a matter of months.

    Sincerely,
    MG
