    Re: Adults dont have Tonsils?

As one ages, tonsils are suppost to atrophy and shrink until eventaully they are non-existant. However this is not always true. People with auto immune issues, allergies and chronic sinus and throat infections.. keep their tonsils so active fighting that they will not atrophy or shrink from lack of use. The only adults that do not have tonsils are those that have had them cut out clean, without any tissue being left to allow for regrowth.

    Sincerely,
    MG

I wish this was true since I had mine removed yesterday and I'm 32. So I did indeed have tonsils and they had caused me much pain.

I had mine removed at the age of 31 along with adenoids and a bonus sinus surgery. It sucked. But It was well worth it.

    Sincerely,
    MG

As an adult I don't have tonsils...but then I had mine removed when I was like 5yrs old. Yes adults have tonsils...all my adult children have theirs. There was time they were automatically removed when you were 4 or 5yrs old but not so much anymore. You'll find many 30 and 40 year old adults still have their tonsils but 50-60 year olds and higher probably had them removed when they were young. And...no tonsils do not automatically atrophy as you age ...only if you have some sort of disease.

I am 54 and was told many years ago that mine had "decayed" (yuck), but I still get the tonsil rocks, so I guess part of them are still there.....
