coughing up phlegm
Why am i always clearing my throat and then coughing phlegm up everytime i cough? I went and seen a doctor and all he told me is to take Mucinex and start using nose spray (Veramyst). Which i have noticed a little difference using the nose spray. But still coughing phlegm up. It is so gross especially at work. I am a waitress and i am around food all day long, and i think that is disgusting. My doctor just thinks that it is my allergies, which i do not believe. I think my doctor needs to try something else, it seems like nothing is working. And i am not a smoker, so i do not know what else could be the problem. I have been sick like this for about 2 1/2 months, and it is not fun at all! I always feel ill and weak. Please someone tell me what will help me!

Re: coughing up phlegm
Coughing up phlegm and constant throat clearing are common symptoms of acid reflux and can indicate that you have GERD or a less common form of acid reflux called LPR (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux) that often has no other symptoms.

The best way to treat either form of reflux is with acid reducing medications like Zantac 150 (twice a day) or PrilosecOTC (once daily). Both are available without a prescription and there are inexpensive generic versions of both available at any drug or grocery store.

It may take a couple of weeks before you see a noticeable improvement so don't give up after just a few days.
