Worried about Fiance. He might have Peritonsillar abscess?

His right tonsil is very large and is touching his uvula. I am very worried he has had it for about a year and a half, we notice it when he had pain in is throat. He has no pain and does not feel it only if he touchs it and it feels very hard. For about 3 week he had a feeling of numbness in his legs now that is gone and now his legs feel slightly weak. He had lymes as a teen his Mom who is an ND thinks it is back. I am worried about the long-term effects on his throat and jugular vein, vagus nerve etc... His Mom and a Natual MD are going to wait for 3 mounth to see if it will shrink. I just wanted to know if anyone had something like this with no pain.
