Coughing after only 2 days?

So, yesterday (Thursday April 5) I had a tonsillectomy, the first surgery of my life. I've read a lot of these detailed threads about adult recovery, and some child recovery, but something that happened today got me a little worried.

Yesterday around 3pm, I noticed that it was getting hard to swallow water. I tried to eat some lime yogurt, which my surgeon said was good, and it coated my throat for about 5 minutes before the pain came back. Now today, I can't eat or drink hardly anything;everything tastes like vomit (tmi I know), and I've only been sick once last night.

The worst thing is, is that I have the urge to clear my throat and cough, but everyone's posts that I've read said that coughing shouldn't really happen for a few more days at least. Is this weird? I am coughing up little tiny spots of blood and a lot of yellow-white chunks.

Anyone have any advice?

Re: Coughing after only 2 days?

I had lots of mucous after my T&A for pretty much the duration of the recovery. I wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as there is no bleeding (small blood streaks aren't a big deal as long as there isn't continual bleeding) and no fever over 100. It would be incredibly early to be losing any scabbing yet or to even have scabs. I would guess you have some mucous in your throat and maybe it is drying out a bit - thus the chunks. Just get as much liquid down as you can and give it some time. If it worries you too much, you can always call the doctor for some peace of mind, but I think what you are describing sound relatively normal for some people.
