Student Has Chronic Throat Pain

I have a quick question.. I am a 25 year student, who has never smoked or used drugs, and I have had chronic throat pain for the last 3 months. I have no idea what could be causing it and why it won't go away. I frequently am required to do a lot of public speaking and wondered if that might have been sufficient trauma to have caused something "chronic," or if was just contributory to some other underlying etiology. Admittingly, I do "strain"/miss-use my voice a lot and have lost it teaching many classes in the past. I also did have some sort of a short URI around the time symptomology developed, but don't seem to have any infective process at the moment (normal temp, no coughing, no excess secretions, no generalized malaise, clear lung sounds, etc). The problem is that I left the USA and am at a Caribbean school so I have no good access to diagnostic testing. Do you have any idea what could be going on? Or recommendations to treat? Pain seems worse at night and in the morning, and its getting harder to swallow.

P.S. I don't know of anyone else at the school with the same issue.

Thanks for your help!
