Using noise reduction headphones with Tinnitus

I suffer from Tinnitus, which I believe was caused by a combination of exposure to loud music at clubs and on aeroplanes, as well as bad posture and neck problems.

I have bought a pair of Bose QC-3 headphones for an up coming flight to Australia, but I am not sure where to set the mic level, as I'm sure setting it wrong and then using for over 10hrs can aggrevate my Tinnitus, which is what I am dreading, and the reason I bought them is so the plane ride doesn't make it worse still.

Thanks.
