Recurring severe sore throat, swollen neck glands, and more...

I'm a 33 yo female and I have never had such a sore throat in my life, let alone multiple times!!!!

It all started back in December. I got a sore throat so bad I couldn't swallow my own saliva! The sore throat lasted a good week. The gland on the left side of my neck was sore and swollen and I also had a fever and body aches. My doctor did not run any tests on me, just called it an upper respiratory infraction and gave me a course of antibiotics :/. It all came back about 2 weeks later. Again she did not run any tests and just gave me a zpack this time. That seemed to help as it didn't come back...for a while. A month or two later I got the sore throat and swollen, sore gland but none of my symptoms were as severe as before. It went away on it's own a couple days later.

And now here I am once again with s bad sore throat. I can't swallow, my right gland is sore and swollen, I have a fever and body aches.

I should also mention that since around December I've had what I would call post nasal drip...there's always "something" running down the back of my throat. I've also had a lot of stuffiness in the left side of my nose. And for about a month I've been experiencing fatigue on a daily basis. I don't feel rested at all when I wake up.

I've also noticed that my tonsils appear to be very swollen, as I don't ever remember being able to see them this much before. They look lumpy and bumpy and take up about 1/2 to 3/4 of my open airway. And about 2 years ago I had issues with tonsil stones. I also have a whitish coating on my tongue but I attributed that to too many antibiotics lately.

I'm such a mess! Could all these problems I've been having be related to my tonsils??? I'm considering seeing an ENT as I've never been to one before. Can anyone offer some insight until I can see the specialist?

That sucks. Sorry, it really sounds like you must have some kind of infection, viral or bacterial. However, from what you say it sounds like your doctor never did a throat culture so maybe you are not getting treated with the best antibiotic for your particular infection. If it's viral, an antibiotic won't help. It' hard to tell for sure. Have you ever had mono? From your post nasal drip situation, it is also possible you've got a sinus infection and that has caused you to get a sore throat again.
I'm going to make an appointment with an ENT myself this week. I've had a sore throat for 6 weeks and just very mildly swollen lymph nodes. It started off as a cold which is now long gone. I understand your misery - but to have all the body aches as well is worse! sometimes it can take a while to get an appointment with a specialist so it may be worth a trip back to your primary doctor if you can't get in for a long time.
