Hearing problems after impact.

I've had a slight muffling of sound for about 4 months now, it started after playing football (soccer) and being hit (very hard) with the ball to the ear.

My ear swelled up and I had significant hearing loss for the first week or so after. Once the ear had reduced to normal size the hearing returned to a decent level (it still feels uncomfortable), but it's just the last part to get it back to where it was.

I've spoke to my GP, and everything seems normal within the ear canal, the ear drum is fine and there's no build up of wax. I'm just wondering if the problem could be a little deeper, possibly a broken bone or a swelling on the inner ear (not a clue, just guessing). I haven't noticed any balance issues or dizziness but I did have it really bad this morning (just guessing it's a one off).

The only thing that seems to help is if I wet my finger and place it inside my ear, but this lasts only 5-10 minutes or so (I very rarely do this as I don't want to cause further damage).

Upto about 8 months ago my hearing was perfectly fine (I had it tested via work).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
