No Voice Resonation(Post Nasal Drip)

I have had Post Nasal Drip for the past Year and a Half. It was started in Phoenix, AZ where I was stationed for the past 3 years. I suspect that the Dry Climate caused it. It's extremely slowly(and hopefully surely) getting better since I've been back in NC for the past Six Months(still a while).
I have also had a voice problem. My Post Nasal Drip started on May 17, 2012. Soon after that, I have lost the Resonation of my Voice. It's not my Chest that's having an issue and my Vocal Cords work just fine. With my Vocal Cords working fine, I know that it's not Hoarseness. But it's more that I'm not getting the right Voice Resonation in my Nose or my Sinuses. I find this to be odd. I'm not even dealing with Congestion nor do I have an Enlarged Adenoid. If I could get some input, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: No Voice Resonation(Post Nasal Drip)

I can definitely attest to the connection of dry air conditions and post nasal drip. My wife and I had moved to Texas for a year due to a job opportunity. We have been back in Chicago now for 3 months and my wife is experiencing the exact issue with her voice. She had recently went to a specialist and was diagnosed with PND. She has been prescribed a Steroid nasal spray which seems to be helping her out.

Best of luck to you.

Re: No Voice Resonation(Post Nasal Drip)

I appreciate the reply. I'm currently on Flonase at the moment. After a week and a half of spraying, it's still difficult to tell if it's working or not. I'm going to proceed for a few more days.

Re: No Voice Resonation(Post Nasal Drip)

I had a nasal Wart the size of a silver dollar bigger removed from my right sinus cavity and since that time 7 months ago I am having the same problems resonance sounds like I have a cold or hoarse BUT it gets worse then a little better??? my mucus is really thick and slimy and have been tested for ciliac and have stayed away as much as possible from possible culprits dairy, wheat sugar BUT I have never had allergies problems? I do have reflux BUT had surgery in 2000 (only loosened up 10% since then + taking Dexilant ) ENT said he saw no signs of Dysponia or Reflux silent or otherwise! I never had this before and had MRI and my thyroid(+ all blood tests) negative BUT MRI showed my sinuses were inflamed? and no one seems to know why I have tried everything you name it it is slightly better this stated in July and it's now Feb. here in southern WI. what I am experiencing I have never had before I have to shout to talk any help would be a God send!!! my career (singer ) depends on it! PLEASE!

Re: No Voice Resonation(Post Nasal Drip)

Excellent Reply, Elvis. When you say Right Sinus Cavity, do you mean your Right Maxillary Sinus? Also, when you say "Wart", do you mean Polyp? A Polyp is basically a Non-Cancerous Growth in one of your Sinuses or Nose. It can also be Removed/Shrunk by using a Nasal Steroid Spray. My Voice resonance also gets better, and then worse, but according to my CT Scan, I haven't had any Polyps(Except for one). How long have you had the Mucus? What color is your Mucus? You are talking about Post Nasal Drip, right? What is this "Ciliac" that you talk about? Even if you've never had Allergy Problems, you should be Tested for Environmental Allergies by an Allergist. He/She can also test you for Food Allergies.

I've also had Reflux (Silent Reflux) but I eventually found out that it wasn't the issue(Took Zantac and Nexium for Months). The Mild redness in my Throat went away and I also had no Acid. Even after I had No Reflux, I was still having Post Nasal Drip. I have had CT Scans(Mostly Normal). Except for one that said I had a Possible Small Polyp or Growth in the side of my Left Maxillary Sinus). How did you convince your Doctor that you needed an MRI. I haven't had one yet and I need it.

I'm going to be having blood drawn tomorrow to have my Thyroid Tested. I have mostly tried everything as well, but we'll get to that soon. How much better have you gotten since Last July? I also have to talk louder for people to understand me. It's irritating. We may be able to help each other. Thanks.

Re: No Voice Resonation(Post Nasal Drip)

1. Celiac (wheat, gluten intolerance test was negative)
2. Mucus is mostly thick and clear
3. I had a WART(nasal papilloma NON-Cancerous thank God!) not a polyp in my maxillary sinus on the right side
4. the ENT tried massive prednisone 50 mg down to 10 mg in 10 days! shrink it first that only helped a little.
5. The ENT has no idea why I am having these problems(mucus/drainage) and suggested an Allergist.
5. he saw no signs of reflux causing this problem or any of the other causes of hoarseness/resonance problems other then post nasal drip ?

I have had sinus issues before but it has got out of hand since he removed that giant wart? there has to be a reason whey ,one thing when I had my blood tests in Nov. my Liver levels where back to normal the last few years they were elevated that wart had something to dio with that, also my mouth is dry every morning and lots when i sing no matter how much water I drink like I have a saliva problem before I would spit a little when I talk now I have a dry mouth??? checked for Diabetes nope that ain't it . Let me know if I missed any answers to your questions

Re: No Voice Resonation(Post Nasal Drip)

Interesting. Did your Post Nasal Drip start RIGHT after you had the Wart Removed? How did you convince the Doctor that you need an MRI. Was there anything else that showed up besides irritation? I haven't had one and I need one. Are you taking any Anti-Histamines(Clariten, Zyrtec, Allegra). That can cause Dry Mouth. I can't exactly explain your Liver Levels. I would have to look it up.

Re: No Voice Resonation(Post Nasal Drip)

I told my Doc this can't go on we have to figure out what the hell is going on my sanity depends on it + I have inflammed lymph nodes in the back of my neck so I think he used that for the excuse for the MRI (that was negative also) he also looked at my veins they did contrast I tried all the mentioned drugs don't help no I always had post nasal drip just not this bad ALSO went to a homeopath told me I was overrun with Yeast from being on Flagyl (17 years 1000mg a day)for my pouchitis(used to have ulcerative colitis) so he prescibed iodine drops up to 22 a day! doing off and on 4 drops a day seems to give me more energy? hard to tell if it's helping but I have had Candidia before everytime gastro. looks in my stomach they find it I am sure this is all tied in somehow plus I sleep like crap AND in 98' was diagnosed with TMJ and I think that is playing a part in this? right now I am only taking as of today 5,000 of Vit. D I stopped taking all my vit. but am taking meds Dexilant and Flaygl and see what happens only thing extra I will take if need be Saline rinse and Prednisone 10 days max

Re: No Voice Resonation(Post Nasal Drip)

Ah, so your Post Nasal Drip got worse after having your Wart removed. I thought that you said that the MRI showed Inflammation in your Sinuses. Did you have another one? I wonder if Yeast is the same thing as Candida(Supposively Fungus).

Re: No Voice Resonation(Post Nasal Drip)

Alright, but since July of Last Year, your Post Nasal Drip has slightly improved? Has your Post Nasal Drip always been Thick and Clear? Not another Color? I wish mine was that way. My Post Nasal Drip is White and Thick. Have you been Allergy Tested? You may find the Culprit via that way. You can be Food Tested and Environmentally Tested as well.

Re: No Voice Resonation(Post Nasal Drip)

no it's mostly clear or whitish sometimes yellowish or greenish but very rare, yes I am going to the allergist calling tomorrow I think it maybe food? I was checked for allergies in the 90's and it showed I was allergic to house dust, rabbits, mold, and pollen but that was it no blood test for food problems, also I will have them do malabsorbtion, fecal fat ,and urine culture tests

Re: No Voice Resonation(Post Nasal Drip)

Yeah, same here. There should be more than one in Milwaukee. Call whichever one has the soonest appointment available. If your comfortable with your Insurance, you should probably get tested Environmental Allergies again. Definitely do some Food Testing. I've never heard of the Malabsorbtion and Fecal Fat Test. I'm guessing the Urine Culture is where you Pee in a Cup? Lol.
