Bulimia and laxative abuse ...

Hi there
I'm a recovering anorexic, now more of a bulimic, and I need advice on how to quit laxatives... I've been using them every day for about a year, and I'm now up to 170 laxatives a day (bisacodyl 5mg)... Should I quit cold turkey, or decrease slowly? The problem is, I binge about every 3 days, so it's really hard for me to stop...
Thanks, guys, and I can't wait to hear from y'all xxx

Re: Bulimia and laxative abuse...

Hi, honey, thanks for posting. Personally speaking I think that you should work out a little program for yourself on your calendar where you taper down each day until you are taking none at all. This will take a while, but that is okay. Are you able to speak with your parents about your eating habits? I am middle aged now but I still struggle with binge eating and I wish I had gotten help decades ago.

Hi Sweetpotato13, thanks for replying so fast
I will take your advice and try to decrease every day... I'm really worried I won't ever get a natural bowel movement again, though, because I've been taking so many laxatives...
My parents don't really understand; they would rather I binge than undereat, so they don't really care that I can't keep my appetite under control :/

Re: Bulimia and laxative abuse...

I hope that you will be surprised to see that your body can regain its own function again.
I sort of understand your parent's feelings... they know that if you weigh too little you can lose your life, so they would prefer you overdo it, thinking that is a "healthier" bad choice.
I hope that you can find a good support system because I am sure you are suffering emotionally, taking so, so many laxatives...I can only imagine the turmoil inside. Sometimes we need professional help for that.
