Anorexia, Laxative Abuse Recovery.

Im 19 & in recovery from Anorexia i have been struggiling for five years and i am now at my highest weight in a while 100lbs, im 5ft7.
In terms of just food & weight, im doing fine.. eating a regular diet, gaining weight and im comfertable and accepting that even though its difficult.
My main issue right now is Laxative abuse recovery. I have been heavily using them for about 12 months. & Havent had a BM "naturally" since taking them.
Im wondering if cold turkey would harm my body [or my ED recovery] & it may be best for me to have set days were i can take them and then lower the days.
Im just unsure of what to expect and how long this will take because i know ive messed up pretty bad to be in this position.
Any advice would be apreciated.

Re: Anorexia, Laxative Abuse Recovery.

If you've become dependent on laxatives in order to have a bowel movement, it may be difficult to have one on your own.
Your body will have to be retrained to work properly, without drugs.
I would discuss this with your physician; I don't think anyone here can answer your question about whether cold turkey is advisable, or whether you should wean off slowly. Only your doctor can answer that.

I can advise eating prunes, drinking tons of water, eating bran cereal, taking a natural fiber supplement like Metamucil, drinking a cup of strong coffee, and getting plenty of cardio exercise.
Those are the only constipation cures I know. They've always worked for me, and I've never taken a laxative (I'm kind of scared to).

But definitely ask your doctor which method is best.
Good luck, and congratulations on your recovery from ana!

Re: Anorexia, Laxative Abuse Recovery.

Thankyou for the advice.
Unfortuantly, speaking to my GP about this isnt much of an option, ive tried in the past but they have never understood my ED & wont listen when i try to explain the extent of my laxative abuse. (Its a long story but i have complained about the practice and its being processed etc)
