    Question IBS and Endometriosis?

    Hello,

    I've had problems with my bowels over the last couple of years but nothing like the last couple of months and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on it.

    Last month, I had very bad nausea that came in waves, when it got very bad I would have a BM and it got slightly better, this went on all day- the BM just kept getting more and more like diarrhea..... I was also sick a few times- all bile. I was on bread and biscuits for a week.

    I eventually ended up in casualty with dehydration.. They thought I had gastroenteritis. I was ill from Saturday 18th Nov-27th Nov.

    I've now had exactly the same this month- started this morning of all days!!!!! Although I haven't been sick yet although I've been feeling very nauseas and had a lot of pain in my stomach. I feel rotten.

    In September this year I was sent to the gynecologist for endometriosis, although they wouldn't do a laproscopy because they thought I was too young and there is too high a risk. I was never diagnosed.

    These two 'attacks' have happened around my period time so do you reckon it could be endometriosis which makes the IBS flare up??

    my symptoms are:
    * Being bloated
    * gas
    * Mucus in the stool
    * Constipation
    * Diarrhea, especially whilst on my period
    * I still feel like I need a BM after one
    * very bad abdominal pain and cramping that sometimes goes away after a BM
    * When these episodes occur I get orange stools!!
    * I also get very weak and tired.
    * Can't eat very much when it happens either.
    * I get a lot of bile- because I throw it up.
    * I get very bad chest pains- they catch my breath.
    * I get achey pains around my heart area.

    My "endometriosis" symptoms are:
    Pelvic pain,
    Very very bad period pain.
    Back, bum and leg pain.
    Pain during, after intercourse
    bleeding after intercourse.
    Stinging in side my abdomin and down there. It feels like someone has been scraping my insides.

    The symptoms mix so sometimes I don't know whats what.

    Thats the only ones I can think of right now.

    Any replies would be much appreciated.

    Merry Christmas!!

    Molly x

    Re: IBS and Endometriosis?

    Your problems sound exactly like mine! I have had bowel problems for over five years now, and I have wondered if it has something to do with my cycle. For the past year I have had really bad pains midcycle and my periods have been different. Not heavier, just different types of pain. I am going to the gynecologist on January 15. I am wondering if my problems are due to endometriosis or maybe an ovarian cyst. But my symptoms are almost a carbon copy of what you describe.

    I will definitely fill everybody in after my appointment. Hopefully it will be of some help to all female members on this board.

    BTW, I am thrilled that I made it through Christmas without any urgent bathroom issues.

    Merry Christmas to all!

    Question Re: IBS and Endometriosis?

    Yes well let us know how it goes.

    I just feel pants as I missed out on feeling good at Christmas.....I feel better today, still a lot of back-pelvic pain, feeling slightly sick but better.

    Anyone else have any insight?

    Molly

    SOunds like me to. I am 23 and have been like that since I was 16. I have had no treatment its always passed off as normal cramping and they have put me on BC piulls twice with no change but terrible migrains from the bc pills. I just deal with it now. Plan to spend quite a bit of time in the bathroom if I have my period or eat heavy foods. I also have pain durning intercourse which I didn't know about until I was 20.

    Question Re: IBS and Endometriosis?

    Went doctors. He said it was endometriosis that had landed on the bowel which has caused IBS.

    I have to make an appointment to go to the hospital.

    He gave me some tablets to help my gut.

    Re: IBS and Endometriosis?

    Glad you got it figured out. I have endo as well and it occasionally messes up my digestional tract. My doctor prescribed Yaz for me (it is a special kind of birth control pill) which helped that a lot. If you are not trying to have children now, that might be an option for you as well.
    Hope everything works out.

    I'm not sure why your doc would be unwilling to do surgery for endo. I know that any surgery is a risk but endometriosis is NOT something to play around with. I have had 2 laps to clean endometriosis out and am now looking at having a hysterectomy. Endo can cause MANY problems with your bowel or bladder. When my doctor did my last surgery my left tube and ovary had attached to my pelvic bone and my uterus had attached its self to my bowel wall which was causing me problems. You may look into starting on a birth control pill, as mentioned earlier. I am taking LoEstrin24 and it did work well for awhile. Best of luck to you
