    Endometriosis/adhensions & IBS

    Hi,
I was told I had IBS after a sigmodscopy 2 years ago.

Since then I found I had endometrosis with adhensions that had badly effected the bowel, making my monthly periods a "time from hell". Last year I had a hysterectomy and endo + adhensions removed, but since then the IBS has slowly become worse over the last 1.5 years.

Is there anybody else that has had similar problems, particularly adhensions operated on or around bowel and found problems of IBS becoming worse?

    Thanks
    Gillian

What does your diet consist of?

Diets high in grains, wheat in particular, have been associated with IBS and endometriosis. In fact, there is a diet called the gluten free diet (gluten is a protein found in wheat among other grains) that is used to treat IBS. The link between wheat and endometriosis is not as clear cut, but endometriosis is thought to be an autoimmune disorder by some and wheat gluten is a prime candidate for triggering autoimmune disorders in those that are susceptible.

    Re: Endometriosis/adhensions & IBS

I've been diagnosed with IBS and lately have been noticing severe endometriosis symptoms. My dr told me to keep a journal of the symptoms and go back to him before telling me I actually have it--so that's what I have been doing. I'm going back to him next month to show him my journals.

Anyway, for once I agree with Arkie6 (we go way back, don't we? <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">) and I think that a gluten free diet couldn't hurt. I find though that a vegan diet (free from meat and dairy) is the key to dealing with IBS--especially if you are in the teeniest bit lactose intolerant. It isn't for everyone though, but just to give you the idea. It's out there. Veganism is NOT bad for your health as long as you eat right, you will have no problems with protein or iron or calcium. It helps keep the IBS attacks at bay like you would not believe.

Let us know how you are doing! Good luck!

Have any of you considered being tested for Celiac Sprue? This is an intolerence to gluten. Why not get your doctors to test for this and see if by chance this is part of your IBS problems.

    Re: Endometriosis/adhensions & IBS

    Hello,
I will tell you, I have suffered with endometriosis and IBS for years. Ten years ago I had my first laparoscopy. It revealed that I had extensive endometriosis. I was sent to a gynecologist, that specialized in endometriosis. He then did a laparoscopy with laser treatment.

I had it all around the bowel and bladder area, and even behind the liver. I was then put on lupron for about 4 months. I did well, until about a year and the pain and problems came back.

Constant bowel and bladder problems. I could not eat any kind of wheat or dairy products.
A couple of months after this, I became pregnant and had a miscarriage . I ended up having another lap and they found severe endo back again.
They suggested hysterectomy to solve the problem.

Four months later, I had a partial hysterectomy. I begged not to take out both ovary's unless necessary.
They were able to save one. I had endo all around bowel, which they removed.
I thought my problems would be gone, until after this surgery.

I will tell you I developed scar tissue in the bowel area. My report came back and I read they left some endo inside. I developed intestinal blockage, IBS worse than I had ever had, chronic fatigue, hormone imbalance to top it off. Low platelets of unknown reason. Now left with endometriosis and no uterus or ovary.

I decided to turn to chinese medicine. Let me tell you, this practioner I am with now, has had many women with endo like us, with all of them suffering from IBS.
This is where the problem began... years before endo came I had always had bowel and stomach problems.
I have changed my diet to eating organic, and no dairy and no wheat products... the symptoms you're having are all related and are partly the cause of the endo.
    Yeast is also a culprit.

She has helped me with my pain and hormones and fatigue and I hardly get any IBS unless I eat dairy or wheat. She is clearing this out with a special electro-magnetic acupressure machine. With wonderful results. I have more energy and less pain in my whole entire life.. Better than any drug you could put in the body. This is all safe and natural. I use a very good powdered refrigerated acidophilus, that I take every morning to replace the good bacteria in the intestines.
I dont eat any foods with chemicals, that means most packaged foods that are full of preservatives, no frozen, or altered genetic food. I eat pure, organic fresh, live food, not dead food. This all plays an important factor in helping the body heal any disease.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I know this has helped me and other women with the same problem.. I know because I tried everything else medically to stop this.
Maybe you should consider alternative medicine.....
