    A Newbie ... unfortunately

In all of my life (58yrs) I would never think this would happen to me...but it did over the weekend. I have been taking two different anti seizure medications for migraine headaches and my back pain (Divalproex ER & Neurontin) but they didn't stop me from having 2 Tonic-Clonic seizures back to back (status epilepticus?) on Friday. After everything was done it took me almost 24hrs to recover. My neurologist told me to go to the ER. Lots of tests. The doctors at the hospital told me to up my Divalproex ER to 3-500mg per day and see my neurologist when I get home. The people at the Denver hospital were great. I hope to see my neurologist sometime this week.
Is it unusual for a person my age to start having these kind of seizures?

Update: I am still having some focal aware seizures. My Neurologist took me off Depakote and I am now on 25mg Lamotrigine (has me slowly working towards 100mg per day). He then put me on Emgality for my migraines. I hope that they don't happen again. Still wondering how this happened to me.

Well, I did not develop epilepsy until my 30's and there was no reason why, no injury, no nothing, just out of the blue...wham. Been on all of those drugs your on...eww, lol. Currently, I am on Vimpat and Trileptal. To be honest all of them are just evil, lol. Mine was the opposite of yours, got the seizures first and than later on developed migraines. Which a lot of it works together I have found.

Still working through the medications. I am now taking Carbamazepine XR. Gives me vertigo sometimes. I'm now wondering if my epilepsy is causing memory loss and my parasomnias (sleepwalking, sleep talking, sexsomnia and amnesia) They seem to be getting a lot worse. I have an appointment with my neurologist tomorrow. Hopefully he will have some answers. I just don't want to take more meds.

I saw my neurologist today. He said he doesn't know what is causing the parasomnias. I have to schedule another EEG in the next few days. So because I am still having seizures, he is taking me off Carbamazepine 300mg and putting me on Aptiom 800mg....here I go again, on yet another medication.
