    Question Panic, seizure, just weird?

This has been going on for about 2 yrs. now. I am a 23 y.o. fem. I have strange episodes that sometimes happen a ew times a month or a few months apart. Mostly when I'm sleep deprived &/or around my period. During the afternoon/evening I just feel "off", then I usually have trouble falling asleep. 1/2-1 hour after I fall asleep I wake up a little confused and panic because I have a "feeling" something's wrong, then a buzzing sensation starts in my head and spreads to my chest and into my left arm. Then it spreads to my entire body along with violent spasms and my chest mucsle even start to go crazy so that I breath irrgeular and grunt. I am fully conscious and can talk. I can stop the spasms briefly, but get a terrible crawling sensation that builds until i move again. This lasts from a few minutes to a series once that continued for over an hour with no more than 5 minutes in between. I've had a sleep study, which includes an EEG, but nothing happened then. Also, a couple times before I had these my dog went crazy after I let her in for the night, jumping and nipping at my left arm and my head, and doing laps around the living room! I told my GP about these (I've noticed more details since, like the buzzing and the spasms starting in my left arm every time) but the doc doesn't think it could be a seizure because I'm fully aware of everything. I was dx'd w/ panic disorder, but meds made everything worse. Anyone have any thoughts on this ??? The one good thing about these episodes is that when they're over I go right to sleep and sleep better than usual-not waking up groggy like normal!

Have you asked your GP for a referral to a neuro? Sounds like this should also be checked out for a seizure disorder....Sounds very much like some seizures...

Hope you can get some help!

    Hello,
When I was around 22 I was also diagnosed with anxiety and panic disorder. I wish I had known then that I was having seizures in my sleep around the time of my period. Do you ever wake up with a lot of drool on your pillow or do you ever bite the inside of your mouth or your lip in your sleep? That is a good way to tell that you are having seizures in your sleep.

    Panic, seizure, just weird?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The one good thing about these episodes is that when they're over I go right to sleep and sleep better than usual-not waking up groggy like normal!

Confused, I had a weird Panic Attack about 7/2002 when I was taking a shower. I knew nothing was wrong and I tried to calm myself down. But I really could not. I had never had anything like this happen before.

I thought that I was having a heart attack and drove myselft to the emergency room.

Then they told me everything was OK and sent me home.

After about 2 months of this, the sporadic Panic feelings went away and have not returned.

Then Oct of 2003, I had a seizure.

Since then, like you I have had weird dizzyness accompanied by ringing in my left ear, left arm gets weak and so does my left leg. I am fully aware during this.

You should definately keep after your Neuro about your condition. What sucks is that seizure meds don't really fix anything.

    Confusedbody:

Get to a Nuerologist! I had VERY similar sensations before I had my first Grand Mal. I would have what I called "hearing distortions" in my left ear and tingling spread into my arms and legs. My GP sent to an Ear Nose and Throat specialist and also gave me an MRI - they found nothing conclusive. Those sensations that I had are called "auras" which can precede a larger seizure, but are, in fact, seizures themselves. Most of the time an EEG will only capture irregular brain activity during an "episode". Also, keep a medical journal and be very descriptive about the circumstances surrounding each episode (time of day, what you were doing, what you ate, etc.) this may help in the diagnosis. Good Luck!
