Hi Mama!
EBV is Epstein-Barr virus and it's one that >80% of people have been exposed to by the time they're 30. Oftentimes we're exposed to it as high school students. Yes EBV can turn in to lymphoma, but that's not something that happens immediately and considering 80% of people have it and the vast majority of those people do NOT have lymphoma, that's not something you should focus on.
In an acute infection with EBV, most people are completely asymptomatic; however, there is a small group of people who can get a sick syndrome with fever, fatigue and swollen glands--this is often called mono (short for mononucleosis) or "glandular fever" in the UK. It's something which goes away on its on once the person's immune system mounts a reponse to it.
In your son's case, it sounds like he has an acute infection with EBV and his body is fighting it off. Just do what you'd normally do with him, and he should get better in about 2 weeks or so.
