Cardio or Weights First?

Cardio or Weights First?

I usually do about 30 minutes of cardio on days that I lift weights and about 45 on days that I don't. On the days that I lift, should I do the weights first and then the cardio so that there is enough glycogen for my muscles? I've been doing the cardio first (to get my heart rate up) and then lifting...don't know if that's good or bad. Thanks!

You are exactly right. Your muscle needs glycogen and cardio depletes your glycogen. So Yes Weights before cardio.

I've watched many people in the gym doing cardio first and the keep wondering why they get no where as far as muscle or strength..Lisa

That's good question, and I'm glad to get a knowledgable answer from Moxie.

I do widely varied workouts at they gym, but I usually do cardio first and followup with weights. There are days when I do weights only, and on occasion, bur seldomly, I'll do weights first. Usually when I get involved with weights first, I end up not making it to the cardio equipment!

Thanks, Moxie, for the good advice. I never knew it actually could make a difference to have a system!

I suggest 5 minutes of cardio to get your heart rate up.
Then lift. Then do your full cardio workout. Best of both worlds.
