sore shoulder blades after working out and hitting golf balls

I have had sore shoulder blades after working out and hitting golf balls for a week now. I decided on Thurs. to take a week off from weight training and golf and have noticed a improvement on the soreness using ice and heat and ibuprofin. The question I have do you think this soreness was from Latic Acid buildup? I purchased some WHey Protein over the weekend to aid with my weights. I have been lifiting off and on since 1988 and I am fixing to be 34. I am going to lower the weight and start doing more reps. When should I start lifting again next Thurs.? Thanks for all who reply..
