Question ...running...

Hi- is there anyone here who runs or jogs often? I just had a question and I was wondering about it. I was thinking about joining track when I am able to but I don't run enough and I am not in shape. I was also hoping to lose a few pounds while I'm at it. Should I start running more and more gradually? And if thats right- then how gradually? I am aiming at working up to about 20 minutes or 30 minutes nonstop (which I know WILL take awhile to get adjusted to) but I am not fit so can anybody help me out? I walk a lot ever day but need help on this. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated!

You're right about doing it gradually, but how gradually will really depend on you. Since you already walk a lot, start there. Use a brisk walk as a warm up, then try to run for a few minutes. Gradually, increase the number of minutes that you are able to run non-stop.

When you're running, don't go full speed, either. Pace yourself with a nice and easy jog. If you do wind up joining track, speed will eventually be important, but right now, getting into shape and building endurance should be the priorities. Good luck.
