Question Eggs vs. Beef for muscle.

Hello, I'm just sort of curious about this egg obsession and building muscle. Wouldn't lean beef be better than eggs for building muscle, since it contains iron and B vitamins as well as protein? Wouldn't beef produce more lean muscle mass than eating half a dozen or so of eggs, since the lean beef contains less fat...unless you're only eating one egg? I'll be honest...I prefer a nice lean piece of beef over eggs. I also have learned to love beef jerkie, but it does have a lot of salt. Thank you.

Even lean beef has some saturated fat. But yes, there are more vitamins and a better BV protein in beef than eggs. *HOWEVER* to avoid the fat issue (and I can't eat red meat anyway) I will use one yolk for every 6 egg whites. Low cal, low fat and still getting vitamins. That or one of the little egg substitute containers with 3 egg whites. But for you carnivores, lean beef is good stuff.

I often see things on this board and other places about using only 1 yolk to so many egg whites... what do you do with the left over yolks? do you just throw them away? i couldnt bring myself to be that wasteful!

Exile, I usually use eggbeaters or just buy egg whites in the little cartons and then add a whole egg.I am not sure about the others but if you want to use regular eggs and just seperate them ...they will keep fine in the fridge in a covered container for a couple of days.

Hello Naxis, Thanks. I never thought of just using one egg yolk to 6 six egg whites. I thought when people were saying they eat 6-12 eggs to build muscles, they were eating whole eggs. How stupid can I be?
For the poster that doesn't want to throw out egg yolks. I find egg yolk makes a great face mask to get rid of pimples. You just wash your face, put egg yolk on for 10 min., and wash it off.
