Getting Motivated

Question Getting Motivated

I'm 17 years old, and I'm in okay shape. I recently quit soccer to start working. I'm feeling out of shape, and I'm beginning to get flabby in my stomach. I was wondering if anyone knows ways of getting motivated to start exercising on a regular basis. Because of my schedule, I really can't workout with a partner. Also if someone knows good ab exercises that would be good too.

if you want ab exercises, look to the many threads around here that have them! I'm sick of writing out a whole bunch lol

In fact, I think we should make muscle threads and just list out exercises for them so people can just look at the thread and get their info.

As for motivation, music usually pumps me up, also getting dressed to do the workout helps because then I started, i'm not gonna quit from just getting dressed! (i'll quit after the first lap lol), plus, always have a plan, don't say like "i'm gonna go jogging for awhile." You have to have a set plan, "i'm going jogging for an hour" or some distance, or some set and reps or whatever you're doing.

Plus, looking in the mirror works for me ... I like seeing the great results i've had and it gets me motivated to top it off.

It's tough isn't it?? Especially when it starts to get cold. I can relate, my state's not too far from MN.

The others seem to think the mirror alone can motivate you, but it just brings me down. Here's some alternative ideas.

Do you still have access to a gym through soccer or school? Sometimes they have long hours that might accomodate your schedule.

Also, I bought an ab-roller a couple months ago, and that has really motivated me- I use it constantly! The ab-roller may not be the thing for you, but a new piece of equipment (large or small, cheap or expensive, jumprope or weight bench) might kickstart your workout.

Another idea, since you're worried about your abdomen, would be to buy a bikini. Maybe having that on top of your underwear drawer (or any drawer you open daily) would spark your motivation to exercise.

Take heart, you have the desire, so you're half-way there!! Cheer up, and have fun!

Thanks for all the great ideas, I've decided to take a picture of me in a swim suit or something like that so I can see how I used to look and then hopefully compare it to something better.
Does anyone know any workouts specific to the sides of my stomach?

It sounds like you are trying to spot reduce (lose fat in a specific area). Your body doesn't work like that. You can do all the ab exercises you want, but it won't make the fat go away. Ab exercises will strengthen and build muscle in the abs, but it's fat loss that will ultimately show them and that is accomplished with cardio and diet. Fat loss has to happen all over. There is a ton of info on ab exercises online, if you're still interested. Search for "ab exercises" and most routines will also include some moves that hit the obliques (sides).
