Target Heart Rate?

Arrow Target Heart Rate?

Hi, I have IST (Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia) so my heart rate is fast to begin with, I've been exercising for a little over a week now (5 times/wk) and I get really scared when I'm on the treadmill and my heart goes too fast. What should my target heart rate be for moderate exercise, I just do cardio treadmill/eliptical machine. I am a 29 year old female.

With your IST, you should ask your doctor.

In the absence of anything unusual, the typical estimate for maximum heart rate is 220 - age. However, there is considerable individual variation.

Target heart rate is typically up to 80% of maximum heart rate for endurance exercise, and greater for sprint exercise (which can only be sustained for short intervals -- people training for sprints sometimes do interval training, which is going all out for a short interval, then easy for a short interval, then all out, etc.). Since you mention "moderate" exercise, that would likely be within the endurance exercise range. But again these percentages are subject to considerable individual variation.

Again, ask your doctor because of the IST.
