New to Gym. I'm not sure about certain things. Need help

I'm 23, about 5'10'', Average build with a beer gut (I'm cutting out most of my liquor intake now) I'm shooting for a healthy appearance with somewhat big arms and chest, but not too ridiculous.

So far my routine is:
Monday-Upper Body and abs
Tuesday-Cardio
Wednesday-Legs and Cardio
Thursday-Cardio
Friday-Upper Body again
...still open to suggestions.

Also I'm confused about amount of grams I should be taking of my shakes. I have Prepump/creatine before workout, following the directions for that one. Then Extreme 60 Protein from GNC, that's where I get confused. I can't find a clear answer of how many grams I should take. GNC suggests three scoops which is 79 grams, it just seems like a lot. I don't want to accidentally gain more weight than the gut I have. I want to lose that! Any tips are appreciated. Mainly I'm worried about the protein/whey question. But anything else would help since I'm a newbie to fitness.

ok, great job for making this commitment! You more than likely need only one scoop of the protein to start with. Also, I'm not sure how much time you have for your workouts, but current research suggests that 3 total-body workouts will bring faster muscle gains (and more calorie-burning power) as opposed to 3 split workouts. Also, cardio should account for about 15-25% of your total workout time for fat-burning, due to the fact that it can breakdown muscle fibres. What pre-workout supplement are you using?
