Flashes in both eyes with movement (running/jumping)

I have flashes in both of my eyes (more prominent in my right) only when I run or jump. I just has an exam with a retina specialist and he took a picture of my retina as well (OCT). He said all looked good and healthy but clearly something is wrong. I also see black spots for a second ad flashes when I cough. Sometimes the flashes are accompanied by streaks that look like veins.

Interestingly, I can reproduce these spots if I press on my eye and they pulse with my heartbeat. If this is PVD why did the specialist say anything? PS these are not migraine or floaters, I get both of those and these are very different. These flashes happen when I physically move my body. Im very nervous that the doctor missed an eye disease. Other than this, I am myopic (-2.75 in both eyes with astigmatism) Thanks

    Hi Noey,
Flashes like you describe can happen when the vitreous (the gel inside the eye) pulls on the retina. As we age the vitreous shrinks, and as it often has attached to the retina, when it shrinks it pulls a bit on it. The flashes are electrical impulses generated by this retinal stimulus. They are usually harmless, however sometimes can result in a tear in the retina. If you see a lot of new floaters or a cascade of black dots, that's the time to get in quickly to an ophthalmologist.

It would have been comforting had your doctor explained the cause of your symptoms to you. However, as you had a good report I'd assume there is no retinal tear. If you're still uncomfortable about it, a second opinion can be undertaken.

I actually do not have that symptom but I do see two black dots in both eyes!

Have you tried increasing your vitamin A intake? I read that this vitamin can help with eye floaters.

I have the same issue as well, but I have been told my eyes are healthy. Did you manage to get more answers?

    Thank you
