    Confused

50 yr old wears glasses to see far. Last 2 weeks if i look at a straight line I can see a slight bend on the line. It is only with left eye. On amsler grid I see a little bend going upward to the ledt side. I went to macular retina specialist and he said my eyes are veey healthy amd I do not have macular degeneration. He said i have no problem. I think he said I see a bend because of jelly something. I qas alone and nervous and really cannot remember. What else could cause a bend on a horizontal line? Floater?

    Re: Confused

Perhaps he was referring to Vitreous "jelly". As we get older this can shift, liquefy and separate from the retina known as Post Vitreous Detachment (PVD). Just guessing though and if you had a PVD in progress I believe he would have said so and had you come back in a few weeks to monitor. I would call the office and ask the Dr to call you back to clarify. I can't imagine he would have a problem with that. You could also seek a second opinion from another Dr. Recommend looking at the amsler grid on a printout copy. Note what you see on that copy and consider that your "baseline". Look at it now and again and get back in to see the doctor if you seen any more changes. Good luck, Jim

On the Amsler grid I see a slight bend on a horizontal line. If not AMD what could cause this?

Astigmatism can cause it lines to bend/wave.

From what I read, this is normal. Most people over 60 have a few.
