    See Thru Eyelids

    Howdy,
First post. All things I find in searches are years old and not the same...
mild cataracts and wide angle glaucoma in both eyes and use Lumigan in both at night.
When I go into dark bedroom, I can see things in there with my eyes closed. It is not a last image memory thing, because I haven't had my eyes open in that room in over 14 hours. Before bed, I put drops in my eyes in the bathroom, close my eyes, feel the wall through the living room into the bedroom and get in bed. The light was never on in the bedroom and my eyes are still closed. I look down and see the mattress. As a test, I look for the corner and reach to grab it , just to make sure it is the corner. It is. I feel for a pillow (dark), pick it up, and toss it across the bed. I again look and reach for the corner of it. I touch the corner with my hand. I can lay down and drape the cover )dark) over my leg or arm. I can see the droop in the blanket and reach for it just to be sure. I grab the edge. Eyes are still shut. I even tilt my head forward to make sure I am not seeing through a gap under my eyelid. Bedroom is dark, only light in living room is the display on the stereo and not that bright. It is not in my mind seeing these things, because if I hold my hand in front of my face, I can't see anything.
I can do this every night and has happened for many months. Two doctors laughed and said it was in my head. Any ideas? Nobody believes me. Any other place, It does not work with the light on.

    Re: See Thru Eyelids

Our visual memory retains images. I experience what you do. I sleep with a blackout mask on but seem to see the windows and furniture in my room when it's on, even though my vision is totally blocked. An ophthalmologist once explained it to me.

People that are without sight still retain images from when they were sighted; it's stored in the brain. Same thing in your case; vision is blocked so visual memory kicks in.

A suggestion: put your drops in when in bed rather than in the bathroom so you don't have to walk with your eyes closed as accidents happen in the home.

I do not see this as image retention. As I stated, I can toss a pillow across the bed and know where it is (see it). Also, if I cover my eyes with a hand, I can no longer see anything.
