    Boston Sceleral Lens

Hey guys ..let me first off give a brief history...I wore soft contact lens for 2 years..till I noticed a couple of prominent blood vessels forming..took the contacts out and it didnt get worse..tried to put them back in..same problem red veins getting really red...put the contacts aside...I had no problems for 2 months..till I developed extreme eye irritation and more prominent blood vessels...I went to see a ocular surface specialist (Dr. Tseng) ...and everything was ok...tear production was good..but this problem is very disabling..and he told me it was due to exposure and wanted to narrow the closure of my lids...but I knew this was not the problem..because when i watch tv...or the cpu..or even go outside my eyes burn..and the inner lids are very inflammed when i pull them down...I have noticed one thing though...if i put in artificial tears..they calm down temporarily..but still quiets down the inflamation..so..im thinking tear evaporation might be an issue...even though my eyes are full of red veins...I then talked to creator of the Boston Sceleral lens..and he told me...it was eye irritation and didnt recommend me closing the lids...I am going to see him for a consultation on monday and praying that this lens will help me out..he said irritation is due to the sensitive cornea not the white scelera...and even if it was an exposure problem ..the lens covers the scelera..so well see what happens..I just want to get the problem under control...and stop the blood vessels from becoming more prominent and be able to go outside and sit in restaurants...so im praying that this will be my miracle..what do u guys think..any of u try this lens???

    Thanks

    Hi

I have been thinking about getting the lens but I thought you had to get referral from your eye doctor. Also isn't it reserved for people who failed all options-such as steroid eye drops etc?

Anyway your problem sounds not serious enough to warrant that lens, BUT I am sure you have good reasons for it.

Please post any information you have, like where you getting this fitted? Are you traveling to Boston?

    Thanks

well I can't keep my eyes open when i go outside..and i had to semester off from school because it is just that bad..my eyes burn all the time...Dr. Tseng forwarded my reports to the Boston Eye Institute..and I talked to Dr. Perry Rosenthal and told him how disabling my condition was...while inside my house..it is not that bad. at times .but...I want to be able to function again...and Dr. Rosenthal wants to see everyone better...my consultation is this monday...and they will see whether it is going to help me out or not..im praying that it does....i dont think anyone should be turned away..when someone is in pain..theyre in pain and u gota take there word for it..

Soulition: Hope the upcoming bad weather doesn't interfere with your trip. I live near Hamilton.
I was going to mention something Ski1 did--steroid drops. Were you prescribed those? You say your lids are inflammed but don't mention having tried them.

Hey Torre...I know alot of people in Hamilton...hehe...ye I hope it doesn't either..well whatever is gonna happen is gonna happen..I got no control over this Canadian weather.. even though I love the snow..yes Dr. Tseng gave me preservative free steroid drops after visiting him...it helped a little bit..but when I got outside...my eyes would still become inflammed...well I guess when you pull down the lid and look at it with someone who has eye irritation the inner lids will be somewhat red...but the dryness and irritation cause the my inner lids to become inflammed...with me at least...I have also tried something else from Dr. Tseng called Methyl Blue..which is a Red Eye drop without the rebound redness..but that didn't help much either...but will probably help people with mild redness...

btw Torre you a Toronto Maple Leafs Fan?

"btw Torre you a Toronto Maple Leafs Fan?"

You gotta be joking!!! Ha, ha, I grew up in a Canadiens household in the old days of Rocket Richard and Jean Beliveau.
I was born in Hamilton, funny if we knew some of the same people. Six degrees of separation...or Kevin Bacon. Anyway...

Did you give Dr. Tseng's drops a chance? Did you use them consistently for any length of time? It sounds, and I could be wrong, that you tried them, thought they helped a bit, but not enough, and chucked em. And have you read the extraordinarily long thread on Dry Eyes?

I don't know anything about dry eyes, but it seems odd to me that if your tear production is normal you would develop dry eyes when you didn't have them before. Unless you've had a face lift, your eyes don't open any wider than they used to. It's a mystery to me.

    Hey Soul-(for short),

How did you get to this stage of problem? Was there any exposure to chemicals? or wore contact lens?

Anyway I am really serious thinking about this as well. My problem is burning also and dry eyes. I have been to Dr. Tseng and thinking about seeing him again next year. His steroid eye drops helped a little for me.

He said the Boston lens is a very big lens and would be the last option.

Anyway good luck and let me know your experience.
