| Question About Mgd
Hi
I Had Mgd For Five Years Now, I Have Been Seeing A New Dr. In Boston, Who Is Expressing My Meibomian Glands, This Is Very Painful, And The Days Following I Have A Lot Of Yellow Discharge In My Eyes, I Just Wanted To Know If Anyone Ever Had This Done, And If It Helped Them? I Don't Know If It Is Doing More Harm Then Good.
I Would Appreciate Any Advice
Thanks

I see a dr in boston also she is very helpful but to express the oil you do the warm compress and lid massage. your dr should have shown you how to do this unfortunatlly its something that is a lifetime endevor. after 5 years with this condition have you had any improvement? Its discourging to hear that someone can suffer with this for 5 years.

I Have Seen Some Improvement After Five Years, But Not Enough To Live A Normal Life, The Dr, I Am Seeing He, Himself Does The Lid Expression At His Office, After I Do Warm Compresses For 20 Minutes, It Is Very Painful, But He Is Unclogging Some Of The Glands, Which Are Plugged Upper And Lower, He Gets Like A Hard Plug Out, And Then Green And Yellow Discharge Comes Out, I Know Its Nasty, But If It Going To Helps I Get Its Worth It, I Just Wanted To Know If Anyone Had There Lids Expressed In A Dr. Office, And If It Helped?
Thanks
Happy New Year

do you get anything out by doing the warm compresses? Sorry to ask so many questions its just nice to be able to relate to this condition with someone and be able to discuss it also. I had my glands expressed at the dr.s and they said that it looked like toothpaste. I dident get the gunk that you decribed and it dident make alot of difference for me. Who do you see in boston if you dont mind my asking?

Hi
No I Dont Get Anything Out By Doing Warm Compresses, But When The Dr. Does It, He Really Applies Alot Of Pressure And He Gets Alot Out, The Drs. Name Is Dr. Korb In Boston, As Far As Affecting My Life, I Cant Be In Any Overly Warm Room, I Need A Humidifer, I Cant Go Shopping Without Wearing My Pantoptx Sunglasses, I Have Some Good Days But Not Too Many, The Summer Is Not As Bad. It Really Ruined My Life!!
How Long Have You Had This Problem?

How exactly does he do it? I'd be interested in knowing what the procedure entails. I have had MGD for a long time too, and my eyes are really severely dry. My doctor is skeptical about doing that because he is afraid I will get a major infection from all of the gunk coming out of my glands. I've had A LOT of eye infections, a few of them really really bad. What kind of ophthalmologist do you see? I mean, mine is a corneal specialist and he deals with a lot of dry eyes.

He Takes A Cotton Swab, And Places It Behind Your Eyelid And Pushes Real Hard With His Fingers, Like Squeezes It, It Is Very Painful, But When I First Seen Him I Had 100% Block Glands In The Upper And Lower, And Now They Are 70 % Blocked, So He Says, I Cant Really Tell If It Helped Yet, Because The Winter My Eyes Are Worst Anyways, But The Stuff That Drains Out Days After The Procedure Is Really Nasty, So I Am Glad I Am Getting Some Of It Out
The Dr I Am Seeing Deals Mostly With Mgd, He Is One Of The Drs That Put Out Soothe Eyedrops, Even Though The Drops Dont Work For Me, I Think He Is A Real Good Dr.

I have been seeing a different dr in boston but was just reffered to dr.korb and have an appoitment next week with him. How do you feel that he helps? what kind of tests does he do? They siad that i would be there for a few hours and that I would get alot of tests. The dr tht I see in boston now jsut looked at my eyes pushed on the glands and said yep you have mgd dont know how much better your gonna get but better then now, so take this and see you in a few weeks. I have been playing that game for a year and like you my life has been ruiened from this I miss alot of work, and have given up most of the things I do in my free time from this. I am 29 and I dident have this one day then last january it hit me all at once. I hope that dr korb has some good help for me. My last dr was very nice and I hope im not making a mistake by switching I just hear that he specilises in mgd and my dr now is a cornea dr that does the whole eye. So I hope I can find some help. My dr topd me that my mgd was improving and it could take more then a year to resolve to a tolarable level I dont know if she said that to shut my whining up or if that is how it really works. Either way im misserable from this.
thanks
mike

Oh Yeah You Will Be There For A While, Dr. Korb Really Takes His Time With You, He Does All Kinds Of Tests, He Has A Machine Where He Could Actually See How Much Oil Your Eyes Are Producing, Since You Didnt Have Mgd That Long, You Have A Good Chance For Recovery, Have You Been Doing Warm Compresses At Home? And Does It Help?
Well I Wish You Good Luck With Your Appoint., Dr. Korb Is A Great Guy, You Will Really Like Him

| Re: Question About Mgd
it took three months to get a diagnosis and me going from dr to dr it started as dry eye but with extream pain. I saw 3 eye drs locally that dident help all of them said your eyes are vry very dry one said put eye drops in 3 times a day youll feel better in a couple weeks. So it went on for months and I finally went to bosston where someone helped or attempted to they dident do many tests just told me taht I had this and trrew a bunch of drugs at me and said youll get better. if it wasent for talkingt o people on the internet I wouldent have any understanding about this condition that is how little ive been helped at the drs. I cant say my dr is not good she has been great but she dident leave me with the understanding of the condition or what to expect othen then it will get better. As for the warm compresses I do them 3 times a day and it does help. It doesent do anything unless I push the oils out of my eyes after doing the warm compress though. That seems to be what really helps the most. Have you been on any antibiotics or drops for this? What did dr korb say about the condition to you? Is it the sooner you treat it the better chance you can get better? sorry for the bad spelling and the thousand questions. I will be making a bout an hour and a half drive to see dr korb so I am just hoping its worth the trip even though I go to boston now for a dr. you have had it for 5 years though huh? Did you have a hard time finding a dr?

| Re: Question About Mgd
I Know What You Mean The First Year I Was Misdiagnosed, They Told Me I Had Allergies, So I Suffered Terribly, I Seen So Many Of The Local Drs. Who Had No Clue What I Had, I Live In Maine So That Explains It, I Dont Think They Know Much About Dry Eyes Here, And Even When I Did Find Out It Was Dry Eyes It Didnt Help, They Said It Was My Lacrimal Gland So I Have Upper And Lower Puntum Plugs That Still Did Not Work, I Tried Every Kind Of Drop , I Been On Doxy For Years Which May Have Helped A Little, But Nobody Knew I Had Mgd Because The Glands Are Blocked Way Down, And You Cant See Any Whiteheads Or Nothing, I Thought I Was Going Insane, Nobody Knows How Painful This Disease Is Unless You Have It, Or How It Affects Your Life.
Dr Korb Really Does Not Know If The Expressions Are Going To Work For Me, Because I Had It So Long, But The Sooner You Get Treated For This The Better You Are, It Is Definately Worth The Trip Going To See Him, I Travel 3 1/2 Hrs, But Its My Only Hope, And Any Hope Is Better Than None
Actually My Eyes Do Feel A Little Better Today, And I Had The Expression Done On Wednesday, I Just Hope The Ones He Unclogged Dont Clog Back Up
Just A Warning If He Does Express Your Eyes It Is Very Painful, And Your Eyes Will Be Swollen For A Few Days
You Have To Let Me Know How You Make Out

Have the doctors given you any idea about what causes MGD? I have it too, but I didn't know until after I had lasik surgery. Then my eyes got REALLY dry and irritated and I can't seem to get them back to normal.
