    Systane and Optive Drops

Up until about a week ago I had been using Vasoconstricters such as clear eyes and opcon-A for about 2 years. I obviously became dependent on them and now suffer from rebound hyperemia. I stopped cold turkey about 5-6 days ago and still have redness in my eyes. To help cope with the redness I bought two products called Systane and Optive. I throw them both in my refrigerator and use them when my eyes get red and dry. They seem to help a little bit for the redness and a little bit for the dryness as well.

What I am wondering is are these drops safe to use whenever? Because I am not using my redness releiver drops anymore, I find the need to use the drops about 6-7 times a day. Can these drops also cause a rebound effect, and can overuse cause even more dryness of the eye?

if they are preservative free, then yes you can use them whenever you need to. If they are the little vials, they are free of preservatives most likely. personally, i don't discard them until its empty, and never had a problem. If it gets dirty or dropped, then i throw it out.

they are in the same type of bottle that clear eyes comes in. They are not individual vials.

I used too much of the lubricating eye drops in the bottles and my dry eyes got worse. My doctor suspects I became allergic to the preservative in the drops. So now I only use the preservative-free small vials of Systane to supplement my Restasin. And you can use as much of those vials as you need.
