Dark spot in vision in the morning

I was hoping someone has experienced this.
I am a 57 yr old male. I am blind in my left eye. and I have early makings of macular degeneration. My problem starts in the late evenings before bed my vision gets pretty dim. House lights and car lights are yellow not bright.

After going to bed and having my eyes closed for a bout 10-15 min, when I open them I will have a dark spot in the center of my vision. and a small hole in the center of that. When I wake up in the mornings the dark spot is there but will subside as it gets brighter out and my eyes adjust to the light. I guess? This spot is so bad in dim light that I cant see my hand in front of my face.
My eye doctor referred to a retina specialist. Outside of the onset of my AMD which is dry had no explanation. The retina specialist thinks?? that my brain is not processing the dark to light as fast as is should. Not a good answer for me.
I no longer have medical insurance. Any one else experience this?

I think I have something similar to you. On waking in low light looking at a slightly lighter background I have a dark oval shadow in the centre of my vision. It is more apparent when I blink disappears when my eyes are shut and also vanishes in bright light. Seems to be worse if I sleep on my back rather than my side and is only on waking lying in bed, as soon as I get up it goes. It is in both eyes but slightly different sizes in each. Have had an eye exam recently and was told my eyes were fine. I am scared though. I have health anxiety and it is freaking me out. I have had this on and off for 3 years... Sounds a bit similar? Please let me know if you find anything out.

Thanks for your post. So far dark spots are still there. and my vision
has declined slightly. I was checked for retinitis pigmentosa and was told
that was not the problem. But this is the closest thing to it. Being my problem is mostly in low light.

Hi I have found out something about our prob and done a bit of research myself. I tried recreating it at night and it turns out it's the light levels and nothing to do with lying down. Also I read a pilots manual and found out that going from dark to light can cause this to happen as it takes a good 30 mins for eyes to adjust correctly. Also stress can cause us to notice things more and myopia can cause vision shadows according to my gp... Claire

Hi i have something similar in a morning but it goes away shortly after i get up or a light gets turned on.

I have noticed something else. if i look at straight at something with a very low level glow in darkness it appears darker then if i dont look directly at it.

Has anyone got any answers?

My advise to everyone would be to see a Retina Specialist. As they can look deeper into the eye's and know what to look for. Another thing I would do is ******** an Amsler Grid and put on your fridge. I had the dark spot last night about 3am. But when I woke up this morning it was pretty minimal.

I had a retinal edema last year but they couldn't really find anything wrong. Already been to the specialist a number of times for scans, blood tests, pictures, fluid leak test etc. Its repaired its self now but i still get small strange stuff every now and then perhaps I'm keeping my eye on it too much (pardon the pun) and so I'm noticing things which are really nothing to worry about.

Being sensitive to your vision is a god thing. I have also been taking eye vitamins in he morning also. The ones that say AREDS formula. Ask your pharmacist first. Or your optometrist before buying.

Marksen4 - did you find out what this was??

I have exactly the same symptom. I have a dark spot in the centre of my vision that I only see in low light. I see it at night and in the morning, but once the sun comes up it goes. I see it in both eyes, and I can kind of see it when I close my eyes.
