Exclamation C3-R Treatment: Racing The Clock

Hi, I have Keratoconus in both eyes. I want to avoid a cornea transplant at all costs. I have been trying to research C3-R and I have come up with some questions/issues with the procedure:

    1) I can't find anyone who will do it other than Boxer Wachler who is in Los Angeles. This is difficult being a poor college student who lives in Upstate New York! Is he the only Doctor in the country that does this procedure?

    2) Is there any difference between the "Holcomb" C3-R (Epithelial-On) type and the Regular C3-R (Epithelial Scraped Off) other than the pain? If not, why is it taking the FDA so long to approve it? Dr. Wachler has been doing this since 1999, right?

    4) I'm not sure if my insurance company will pay for the ~$21,000 it costs for the procedure because it's not FDA approved! I fear soon it will be too late, as I no longer can use my left eye it has gotten so bad. I rely on my right eye, but it too will soon be gone. This is a race against the clock.

    3) My keratoconus has progressed too far for Intacs, but will the Holcomb C3-R still stabilize it without them?

If anyone could please help me with this or any information I would surely appreciate it.
