Hey I am 21 years old and have been diagnosed with amppe. Everything started about 12 months ago when I noticed vision disturbances where I got stars and sparkles in my vision and also blurriness. I went to my optometrist who found scarring on the back of my eyes and then referred me to an eye specialist. A couple weeks after starting tests for my eyes I had a stroke.
After trying to do more tests into why I had a stroke as well as my vision problems they found no explanation, so I went on to live my life like normal and only went back for my necessary check ups.
I then began to notice further vision problems, where I had more sparkles and stars in my vision and it also went blurrier. I have been back to see a new eye specialist and neurologist that have now come to the conclusion that I have this amppe.

My first question would be, I would like to hear from people with similar stories, and my second question would be does anyone know how far this amppe can go or if i am likely to lose my vision completely?

Please let me know your stories and let me know your thoughts. I am really worried.

Re: Amppe

Hey , I'm 23 this month, recently I have been diagnosed with AMPPE , about 15 days ago I noticed some kind of disturbance in my vision . Some how to rule it out I closed one of my eye . Then I noticed single grayish kind of spot in my right eye's vision . As it was the beginning I didn't take it seriously I kept my self busy in my daily routine . Next day still I was facing the same problem even with greater intensity . And the spot was static /constant , just below my central vision , for eg. like if I use to took at some ones face and keep focussing his/her eye I can't be able to look below the nose of that person because it's under the spot. I immediately visited ophthalmologist to rule out what's going on with me. I met total 4 opthalmologist/eye surgeons/specialists , the first one failed to figure it out and wasted my three days as my vision was getting worse and the spots were multiplying it was total three spots now. Now it's the 4th day I had several tests like OCT , And Fluorescence Fundus Angiography, and one of the doctor said it caused by autoimmunity , the other two named it AMPPE, now I'm confused what to do now as my vision of my right eye is going worse each day . After all I had to follow one of the doctor who was easily available , he put me on steroid doses (prednisolone) started from 60mg 3 days than taper it off after set of each 3 days till 10 mg , and also gave an injection LUCENTIS it's expensive although (search google ) injected into the eye . Injected steroid below the eye also. He did every thing which he could. It was the seventh day . I was being wait and watch that what his treatment will do but unluckily my three spots turned bigger and changed shapes spots are multiplying Now my central vision is badly affected if I close my one eye I can't identify ones face or read . It's the 15th day now I'm soo worried that it would cure or not . Today I went for second opinion he said it's a self limiting disease you should stay on steroids not to reduce it , I'm on 30mg each day , and in this condition injections are not needed into the eye . Now I'm following my new doctor he wants to see me after three weeks .All we can do and we should do is to donnot take stress on those things which are not in our control because I also got upset and lost all hopes like this we will make ourselves upset , but if we take a closer look of this world there are more bigger problems and miserable things than ours .
