Desperate for help with rare eye condition

My 21 year old brother has had an eye oil gland issue for several years now. He is in severe pain if he is in a room with circulated air, if wind blows in his eyes, when he looks at the television or any flashing lights, and/or he is anywhere where exposed air comes in contact with his eyes. He has tried every drop under the sun, including some homopathic remedies involving cayenne pepper. He has had the oil glands pierced numerous times and recently underwent an extremely painful procedure where his oil glands were heated with a machine which actually caused his oil production to worsen. Does anyone know of anyone who has experienced this debilitating problem? He is pretty much home bound as he is in pain wherever he goes. We are desperate for any info anyone can give to help out with this. Thanks!

Re: Desperate for help with rare eye condition
You mean his oil glands are over-productive?

I don't know anything about it, sorry, just thought that clarification might be needed. In other words, he has the opposite of Dry Eye?

No. He has severe dry eye. His oil glands are clogged and don't produce any oil. He put on contacts and where they are, his eyes don't hurt. They hurt all around the lenses from air hitting them, due to drying out so quickly because of lack of oil. There have been several procedures performed to unclog his oil glands, but nothing has worked.

Re: Desperate for help with rare eye condition
I am so sorry for what your brother is going through. I've been going through dry eyes too, not quite that bad though. I don't believe this just happens, I do believe there is an answer even if docs are out of options. Often the eye problems are not just local, limited to being an eye problem. Eye problems can be signs of unknown food allergies, other autoimmunie diseases and even hormone imbalances (even though he is a young man). Has your primary care doc done a blood test panel to check thyroid and other blood cell and vitamin levels? Also a hormone saliva test and a thorough blood test for food allergies. Going organic is a great idea also. Cod liver an olive oil added to the diet. Also, if there is a problem with the eye lid itself, you can do a potatoe poltice on the eye lids, I'm pretty confident with that. You can just search online for directions on how to do that. Best wishes!
