mom who won't go to the doctor

im very concerned for my mom, shes in her 50's and a person who doesn't believe in going to the doctor, shes very religious and believes in faith healing(not sure if i can post that part, but i feel it's important in this thread).

she recently told me that she has for the past couple of months had a lump on her breast that has become painful...

what can i do for her, she just threw this on me, knowing she won't go to the doctor?

im super scared and worried, i just don't know if this is a possible sign of breast cancer, i checked the symptoms, and they said painful lumps are usually a sign of a benign condition, but i don't know if thats for a lump that hasn't gotten better and remained for months.

is this something where i should be concerned enough to beg her to go to the doctor?

Re: mom who won't go to the doctor

I found a lump myself a couple of months ago. Mine is not painful and I actually came to this board to have questions answered myself. I can only tell you that I believe it is so important to see a doctor weather you think it is cancer or not. I found out that more women do find lumps than you may think, and most of the time it is nothing. If I were in your situation, I would pleade with my mother to see a doctor. Good Luck!

Re: mom who won't go to the doctor

You can tell your mom that God helps those who help themselves and if God forbid something is wrong with her the best thing she can do for herself is go to the doctor to get it checked out and be treated for whatever it is...maybe it's even nothing at all. God will take care of the rest. I really hope you're able to convince her...i'm sure that if anything at all she would want to be healthy to be around for you for as long as possible...i think that can be reason enough. Please keep me are both in my prayers

Re: mom who won't go to the doctor

I know religious stuff shouldn't really be posted her, so delete this is it's necessary, but one thing that may help is pointing out ot her that the Bible says that your body is a temple of God, and it is therefore your responsibility to take care of it, and that includes going to the doctor. I'm not trying to force my religious beliefs on anyone, just trying to help with the situation.
