My boyfriend is a germaphobe, unsure how to help..

I'm currently in a relationship with this guy I've known since elementary school (I'm 18, he's 19). For as long as I've known him, he suffers from PTSD and panic disorder, and only recently has it became more and more prevelant that he has a fear of germs. Looking into mysophobia his behavior lines up with what's described. I'm unsure how to help/support him through this difficulty...any suggestions?

Hi. Does he think he has a problem or is he in denial about it?
The only way you are going to be able to assist him with this is if he recognizes that he has a problem and wants to see a doctor to get help. Both cognitive therapy and meds will assist him with this; but he has to want help to be receptive to getting any...
    Good luck!

He recognizes that he has a problem. He informed me recently that he is going to seek counseling, which is great! Is there anything I can do specifically to help him through this? Thank you for your reply

Support him emotionally. Go to counseling with him, even if you sit in the waiting room. Show that you are there 100%!

Its great that he recognizes this...and eventually the counselor will want to talk to you as well to give you some tips on how to handle things, but for now, just be supportive as it sounds like you are..

    Good luck!
