Constant muscle twitches in one area....

Hi all. I have had my foot twitching flare up for the past week and it has mainly just been in one localized spot on my foot. Could this mean some kind of nerve damage in that area? I didnt injure my foot or anything. I dont do a whole lot of exercise so I couldnt be from too much walking/running. Anyone have any ideas on why I might have it in just one area constantly? The only way I can get any sleep now is to take a muscle relaxant, but Im still waking up a lot at night for some reason. Im trying to get an appt with a neurologist, hopefully soon. Thanks everyone for your help!

hi jen78,
no worries. it happens all the time to me. you get used to it. at first i was afraid. your brain and body are feeding mismessages to you. telling you something is wrong when it isn't. drove me nuts the first couple of years. now it is old hat. i just tell my body that we/i know there is nothing really wrong. i soothe me mentally and rub the area gently till the tissue and nerves relax and remember their truth.
most important, remember to breath. slow deep breaths with a full exhale. talk to your body.

ps. i once had a twitching thing by the corner of my mouth. went on for a couple of weeks. i rubbed, i talked and i soothed to no avail. then one morning i woke up and it was gone. bizarre!!!!

I get the twitch mostly on my eyelid, everyone thinks I winking at them! But my feet...OH MY! They don't twitch but my toes won't stop moving, drives me crazy when I try to relax. I would guess it is like restless leg syndrome only it is my feet. I just concentrate on relaxing my feet and tell my brain to tell my toes to stop moving. And Like Bluelake says BREATH, BREATH, BREATH!

I used to get the "crawleys" where it felt like a bug was under my skin in my feet and some twitchy feeling in my arch of my foot. I haven't had it in a long time. I took flexeril and then tried discontinueing it. I have just been seeing what meds I really need because I was put on so many at onset. I can't sleep a full night without the Flexeril. I take 2.5 mg and sleep through the night as long as my bladder is empty at bedtime.

Hi, do your twitches last all day, for hours, or for a few minutes? I occasionally get muscle twitches, in various parts of my body including feet, calves, thumbs...they dont last very long but they just make me think that something is really wrong with me. I don't know much about fibromyalgia or if I have it. I have never told a doctor about these twitches. Do you think I should a specialist? and what kind, neurologist..? any info would be great.

I've been having twitches in my arches (both feet) for over 3 years. And at many others places too. When first noticed I was freaked out, but time helped ease the anxiety as well as a series of neurologist visits and tests.

FYI, instep and arch twitches are very very common. Many people have it but never do notice... The least serious twitches are the ocular (eye-eyelid area)
and instep/arch ones...Hope this can comfort you some.
