    Post Stomach ulcer

    Hi everyone,

A couple months ago I started getting severe nausea and cramps every time I ate. The cramps would often wake me during the early morning hours.

I am currently being treated for a stomach ulcer possibly due to previous pain meds. I've taken: Neurontin, Ibuprofen 800mg, Naprosyn, Celebrex.

My doc has ruled out gallbladder problems and leans more toward the ulcer diagnosis. I'm currently taking Nexium and have been for eight weeks now. I cannot take pain meds. until my stomach heals.

Do you think this is really an ulcer or is it FM

    Thank you all,
    Hope

I've had a bleeding ulcer before and my symptoms were extreme nausea, almost passing out, loss of weigh, throwing up blood and could not eat anything spicey whatsover. They did a blood test for h-pylori (a bacteria that forms in a open wound/ulcer in the stomach. They put me on heavy duty antibiotics (like 2000 mg. a day along with a pump inhibitor (stops acid in stomach.) I can't even imagine taking Ibuprofin if you have any kind of stomach problems. What kind of doc are you seeing - G.I. specialist(?) and have you had blood work done for h-pylori? Also, an upper G.I. can be done to rule out a severe ulcer. It does not pick up on small ones or ones that are just about healed. My doc did all of the above and then I had a scoping down the throat to confirm it. It wasn't bad at all and confirms what's going on. Dawn

Most of the medicine you were taking can tear your stomach up if you are sensitive to aspirin-type products. I can't take drugs with anti-inflamatory qualities like Celebrex or it will tear my stomach up making it hurt and bleed. The first time I was taking something that did that, I too threw up blood and thought I was dying. Hopefully, the dr. will be able to heal your stomach up with the proper medications. If you haven't tried the pain med Ultram, give it a shot as that won't tear your stomach up. If it doesn't help your pain, I guess you'll have to try something else.

    oohhhhhhhh ...

CELEBREX is the stomaches worse enemy!! So is Aspirin... Switch to VIOXX and see if it helps, it may hurt too... But it didn't me. The first week was yucky, but then it went away, plus it helps with pain quite well for me and many others...

You can also take PRILOSEC or better yet, take its new form called NEXIUM which repairs damage already done to the stomach too... It will clear your stomache right up even if you do have an ulcer!! I promise!!! The burning & hurting your stomach goes through will be gone almost immediatley.. I would never trade it for any Mylanta or rolaids or any of that stuff or for all the money in the world.. I have major stomach problems, so I speak from experience!! It is some goooooooooooooood stuff.. One cap a day, no side affects except for maybe a little Gas or diarrhea the first couple of times you take it.. After that, you won't even know you took it except for the fact that your stomach feels grrrrrrrrreat!!

Tell your doctor you wanna try it!!

    Hi all,

I believe the ulcer was caught in the early stages, as I never threw up any blood. As to extensive testing I never had any, just the ultrasound to rule out gallbladder problems.

My primary care doc was the one who initialy prescribed those meds. I was taking them when I saw the rheumotologist the first time and she didn't question anything. Because of the way most HMOs work they cannot presribe other meds unless you have a history of stomach problems. I guess I've accomplished that!

I've been taking Nexium for the past 10 weeks and it seems to be helping alot. My doctor won't allow me to take anything for pain at this time as he wants my stomach to heal first.

ANY IDEA HOW LONG THAT TAKES?

As for the Ultram, I've heard alot of good things about it here, I'm going to ask if I can try that one next.

    Thank you,
    Hope

One more thing that helped me a lot is an OTC med called Gavascon. They sell it at any local pharmacy or dept. store. It realllly helped me a lot. You can use it in conjunction with an antacid or pump inhibitor (prevacid) and that comes from my GI doc who's excellent. Good luck! p.s It is a chewable and tastes bad, but it helps.

Ask Your doc about Liquid pain meds or pain patches..

And he may just let you have the Ultram as my doc wouldn't let me take any thing else but Ultram for about 3-4 weeks one time, because I have a hital hernia, acid reflux & at that time, I also had esophagitis...
