swelling in ankles, legs and behind knees

emily, i don't have an answer for you, i'm sorry, i've just been dx'd with fm myself. but your post caught my eye because this is where i have most of my pain. my feet, ankles, legs , behind my knees and my thighs and hips. i don't swell up though. how have you dealt with your pain these last 15 yrs. so far i'm just taking an oxycodin cut up in quarters. most days only need 1/2 pill.

Have you had your blood pressure checked? It could be edema due to hypertension. I have it and when I eat too much salt or drink alcohol my right leg swells up like a balloon. My ankle mostly but if its bad my leg will feel very tight and full all the way up to my knee.

Just a long shot...but thought I'd throw it out there.

I also have this swelling that you are referring to. My Rheumatologist says this is not Fibro related. If your blood work is all coming back normal, fluid can be drawn with syringe to detect what's causing fluid retention.My Rheumy suggest drawing fluid from a larger joint such as the knee. If you have a Rheumy, maybe you can make a appointment when the knee fluid is present and Rheumy will syring the fluid for testing. Hope this helps you, i know i get alot of fluid in feet, ankles and can be so painful to walk.
