bluesman, I have a question. I also do the fish oil....Omega3.....how much do you take a day, if you don't mind my asking, and how long did it take to do some good? I do a lot of vitamins and I am a big believer. My biggest problem is sleep and I take an ambienCR, two benadryls (OTC) and two baclofen. When I flare, all that still does not put me to sleep or keep me asleep. This is such a strange illness, but like you I have been this way so long, I really thought everyone felt the same as me. Until I got older and realized that my contemporaries had so much energy and didn't creak around like I do.....then the light bulb went on. Thanks for the info.

    Glojer,
I totally agree with you. My light bulb went off also when I realized none of my cronies had joint, leg, back, and neck pain like I did. I would ask them if they sat in a chair for a while, were they really stiff getting up. Of course they all said no. And I was only around 40 when I realized I wasn't like everybody else. Looking back I think I started with symptoms around 1991. I will say that I feel pretty good today. Not great but better than yesterday. Yesterday was a really bad day. What I think helped me last night was I slept with a heating pad all night. Heat seems to really help my pain. I am so thankful for this board and have finally found someone who can validate my feelings. Thank you all!!!

My doctor's appointment is Monday. I'm going to approach her in a complete new way. I've even been rehearsing what I'm going to say. LOL

By the way, does anyone on this board live in Virginia Beach, VA, and if so, who is your doctor? If things don't go right on Monday, I'm going to start shopping around for a new one. Thanks.

I would like to share something with all of you that took me by surprise... My mom is a retired registered nurse and worked in the field for over 30 years and is a wonderful support system for me now.... The other day I was with her while she was in town.... She told me that when she was working she could never really empathize with patients with chronic pain... She said the patients always knew when it was time for their next round of pain meds to the minute... Now granted, some were drug seekers but most were not....

It was not until she, herself, started suffering with chronic pain that she truly understood it... So that really helped me to understand how hard it is for the normals to understand the pain that we live with on a daily basis no matter how many times they say they understand...

Please remember that you can always come here for the support, caring and understanding that you need as we all understand perfectly...

I hope you all have a pain free day as much as possible. Jenn

Glenda51 - You can always take a note pad with you... I don't know if you get fibrofog sometimes but it helps me if I take notes to my doctors appts if I have specific questions... Just a thought... Jenn

Re: I'm new to the board and I need some support

I always take a list of questions to my docs office visits. I don't trust my memory to get all my questions answered. I also put down the answers, sometimes right in the office other times as soon as I get to the car. There is certainly nothing wrong with that. I think most docs appreciate their patients having that much organization. It helps them as well.

Question Re: I'm new to the board and I need some support

I had my doctor's appt. today. I actually started crying in the office. As of late, this disease has been affecting me emotionally. She has started me on Lyrica twice a day and Flexeril at nite. I asked her about Ultram, but she said that will just mask a cure ie, pain free, but doesn't actually help aleviate the pain only just temporarily gives you pain free time. I figured then it was useless for me to request a narcotic of any kind. I also inquired about a Pain Mgt. doctor. She said she doesn't think they work with fibro patients.

She said we were going to try a program but it might have to be tweaked. She wants to see me again in 3 weeks. I don't know what to do.....I brought a written list of all my symptoms and read them to her. She made no comment, but asked how many "bad" days do I have a week. I told her that was impossible to answer because it varies, but I need SOMETHING to get me thru the bad days. Please give me your feedback. Thank you. Glenda BTW, I have been on Prozac 40 mg daily but I told her I want to get off of it. She said to wait until we try the new drugs. I've been on Prozac for years...............I really don't know if I truly need it....we'll see.

Re: I'm new to the board and I need some support

    Hi, everyone,
I too have been diagnosed with myofascial pain and I had 2 physical therapists that felt that I had fibro also.
I have been suffering like you all for quite some time, and I am not sure if all of my problems are coming from these illnesses or if I have something else going on, because I have not yet found a doctor who really understands either one of these illnesses. I am sure that you all know what I mean. I ask a question, and they don't know the answer. I actually had a doctor tell me after I was diagnosed with myofascial pain, 'we don't know where it comes from, we don't understand it, and we don't know how to treat it.' So, anyway, that is why I am still looking for other answers.
My question is, do any of you have high blood pressure or a heart arrythmia (rapid heart rate or skipped beats or added beats)? Do anyone of you feel a lump in your throat that comes and goes? Do any of you have sternum pain?Do any of you have rib pain? If anyone could please share symptoms with me, I would appreciate it so much.
    Thanks.

High blood pressure, skipped beats (hearts stops, then starts), rib pain (intercostal myalgia).

Re: I'm new to the board and I need some support

Glenda51, I think you need to find a new doctor who specializes in fibro. You need something to help with the pain, and your dr is not accurate, pain management dr and rheumatologists treat pain from fibro. Maybe you need to get a referall to rhuematologist. I would do some research with a phone book and call around. Is your dr familiar with fibro?

I am so sorry your appt. did not go well. I feel strongly you need a dr who understands you and can treat your pain.

Re: I'm new to the board and I need some support

    Mmee,

I have all of the symptoms you asked about and many more. My irregular heart beat actually started about 15 years ago. I was dx'd with FM 4 years ago. I was taking Atenolol for this and was switched over to Toprol XL a couple of years ago.

That lump in your throat you mentioned ... I have that kind of feeling, actually, it's more like I swallowed a tennis ball and it moves from my stomach area (and sometimes starts in my back) and travels up through my esophagus and up to my throat. I used to think I was having heart attacks. SO painful. Then, a few months ago, I started having that kind of pain that would start in my throat and sometimes just traveled to my esophagus when I would swallow. Haven't even told my docs about that one yet.

    Hang in there!

    Robin

Re: I'm new to the board and I need some support

Thanks everyone for your posts. I have occassional pvs and pacs and fast pulse pretty much all of the time, so maybe it is coming from the Myofascial pain. I also have the rib pain too.
I have that same pain that you have lost robin in the throat and esphogaus. I have told my doctor, but it didn't really seem to get noticed. I thought that I was having a heart attack too.
I am so confused about all of this, but thank you so very much for all of your help. It has helped me to know that I am not alone.

Re: I'm new to the board and I need some support

I was diagnosed with FM 1 year ago, I also have the Arthritis gene LB147, which was diagnosed by an ophthamologist. Oddly enough ! I have lymph swelling and breakouts of iritis in my eye. The rib pain & back pain is sometimes unbearable. Just recently I started getting severe nerve pain, so that is why they put me on Lyrica. I have been taking low dose Soma and just went on Lyrica. There is nothing my Ruematologist can do for the pain, but try seeing a specialist. Family physicians misdiagnosed me for 7 years. Keep trying different medicines. I feel better when I am in the pool and stretching like Yoga or maybe Ti Chi, helps relieve some of the tension. Get a water fountain to listen to & relax, try meditating to relieve some of your tension & muscle tightness.

Good luck, I hope you find a good doctor.

Re: I'm new to the board and I need some support

    alice07,
thanks so much for the suggestions. I will try them.
Do you have any heart arrthymia or rapid pulse or anything like that? I have developed that over the past 13 months, not sure if it is from the myofascial pain or from something else. I am learning though that alot of people with fibro and myofascial pain do have the heart thing also.
I was actually diagnosed fairly quickly, but I still have not received any help, advice or anything from any doctor yet. I am hoping that that will change. My old doctor said that if you could just stretch then it would bascially take the fibro and myofascial pain away, it was obvious that she did not know much about it or had not seen either disease very much.
How did you find out about the arthritis gene, through a blood test? Was your ANA level elevated? Mine was checked twice and both times it was 1:640 and the normal is 1:80, so it was very elevated.
Keep me posted on how you are doing, hopefully we can help each other out through all of this.
    Thanks.
