New Member Question - Kenalog Injections for Fibromyalgia Pain

Hi Everyone,

My name is Terri and I am a 46 year-old mom of three adult kids. I have fibromyalgia, and about two months ago, I started going to a pain management specialist. He initially put me on Lyrica, but after reading about all the adverse side effects, I've decided not to take it. Now he wants to do Kenalog injections under Propofol anesthetic. Have any of you ever had this done or do you know anyone who has had this done? I can't find anyone on the Internet so far who has had this done, but I'd like to, because I would like to know about their experience.

Hope to hear from some of you!

Re: New Member Question - Kenalog Injections for Fibromyalgia Pain

Terri - hi. If the Kenalog shots are cortisone, then I have had them. I'm not sure if Kenalog is a brand name? I've had them in my hands, my hip, and wrists. When they were in my hands, the cortisone shots definitely helped my hands, visibly too, because as soon as I got the shot once, my "triggered" thumb, (locked in a folded position) came free within minutes of the injection. The one in my hip, I'm not sure - any help it gave me was short lived. So I think if they are cortisone, and they are perfectly placed for the exact spot in the joint, the shots help. Perhaps the hip area is too large for this type of shot.

Don't forget Terri, that these may not be the kind of shots your doc is calling for. Hope someone else responds who has more info about them.

wishing you peace and comfort,

Re: New Member Question - Kenalog Injections for Fibromyalgia Pain

I have had kenalog shots for bursitis in my hips. They were given to me by an RA doc. It relieved the pain for just over 6 months. Kenalog is a brand name, as are Cinolar, and Triderm. There is another drug called Kenalog 10 that has about 12 other brand names. Actually, there are a train load of different cortisone drugs out there. I know nothing about them. I have discussed using kenalog with my doc, but because of a particularly weird side effect, I cannot use Kenalog, although I did use it about 20 years ago for 2 years. I have used predisone as well. I currently use one called methyprednisolone (generic name), but in pill form and only for specific symptoms.

Good luck in your journey to good health

Re: New Member Question - Kenalog Injections for Fibromyalgia Pain

I had one of these about 4 weeks ago for an ongoing sinus thing and allergies... and she said in an off-handed way "if you notice your Fibro getting better, that might be a perk."

This caught me off guard and I thought that I probably wouldn't notice anything... but I HAVE seen my fibro getting a bit better especially in the headaches and the locations on my hips and knees.

That said, I don't know if I'd go in to get the injection just for that amount of relief... but I did find it a nice little perk.
