I've been on it for just over 1 year. I have benefited greatly from it. I work fulltime and would not be doing so if I didn't have something to help me. I still have bigtime energy issues but it has helped greatly with the hideous pain. I cannot tell you what to do. Just what has worked for me. I hope you find relief somehow!!!!

My husband has fibro and has just been given Lyrica. So far it has been a great pain drug. I heard all the bad things about the drug too and was afraid for him, but so far so good. This is wonderful because he has tried literally everything for pain and nothing worked. Hope you will give it a try. Tedybear

I too have heard bad things about Lyrica. My primary doctor gave it to me and said to take 2 at bedtime. Well, I did and I was extremely disoriented and nauseas
for 2 days straight; couldn't even drive. Needless to say I haven't taken it since. If it works for you then that's awesome; at least you'll get some relief from this debilitating syndrome!!

    Re: anyone take Lyrica?

I was prescribed Lyrica and I felt the same way as Cheryl the next day. I wouldn't even drive my car. I put it away for a while and tried Gabapentin but it too had the tired side effect. A few weeks back I was very sore so I tried the Lyrica again and broke out in hives! I just basically take 400x2 Advil every 6 hours or Tylenol 3's with codiene I have a heating pad and an ice pack. There have been days I literley felt like climbing right inside the freezer. None of those things seem to work the way I would like them too. I want some relief to be able to just move around without any pain. It seems I have to take so many pills they make me feel yuk. I have also tried Celebrex, Meloxicom and some other NSAIDS. It's a new year and I am determined to find some relief somehow, I hate exercise because I already hurt so much, but I don't care I need to do something and on a regular basis. I try to lie still and stretch my muscle from my feet up, it's kind of like meditation, I don't stretch a lot just small intense muscle exercise, if you were to look at me you wouldn't even know I was doing these. I work my way all the way to my head and start again. I never in my wildess dreams thought I would end up with this kind of ongoing pain, but it can happen to anyone at anytime. I think I feel worse if I have stress factors going on-I need to have "quiet alone" time frequently.

I got some other kind of drug. I'm afraid to take it. And be in more pain then I am now. I use cold packs heating pads take hot showers. I was taking pamprin did nothing tried tylonel eh. But Ibruprofin seems to work a tad. see I have extreme panic attacks and that makes the pain 100 times worse for me. I hope it will pass and I will have some relief. You know I know I had this for at least a year in a half now that I have been diagnosed Offically I've just been freaking out. I need to calm down so that I can feel better.

BTW does anyone's legs ache? mine do usually at the same time. and my stomach was killing me earlier ugh. Not a good time right now.

    Re: anyone take Lyrica?

I tried the Lyrica and it made me hurt worse. Cymbalta made me gain about 40 pounds and suicidal. The NSAIDS work on arthritis, not on myofascia and deep tissue. I go to a pain specialist have for over 17 years now. I get trigger point injections, nerve blocks and ablations. I also have 2 electrodes in my head hooked to a stimulator to keep me from having headaches 24-7. I have crappy days, but I use elavil, soma and ambien at night. I have flexeril, vicodin, morphine and anti-nausea drugs to take when I need them. Opiates upset my stomach and I have to lie down when I take them. You just see if they can give you samples of new scripts instead of paying a fortune to find that they don't work for you. Lyrica wa a nightmare. The only thing it helps on people I know are ones with nerve pain like shingles, etc..

    Hope this helps some.

    Re: anyone take Lyrica?

My doctor switched me from Neurontin to Lyrica a couple of weeks ago. I had read bad stuff about it and was afraid of it too but I researched and found some good stuff about it too and decided to try it. The only side effect I'm having from it is constipation. It has helped my pain some, especially at night. He wanted me to take 75mg 2 times a day but I talked with my pharmacist and he said that was a high dose to start out on and wouldn't recommend taking it 2 times a day so I only take one at bedtime. Perhaps some of you that had such bad side effects from it were starting on too high a dose? I do know that I had forgotten to take my meds the other night, which I NEVER do but we had a death in the family and with everything that goes on during a time like that, the funeral, out of town family, etc., I was just worn out physically and mentally and I slick forgot to take my meds, and the next day I was very sick. I think it was because of the Lyrica. I believe that because back in November I had to go to the ER one night because of chest pains and because my cardiac enzymes were high they admitted me for the night for observation. I didn't have my medications that night and I didn't feel like I did the other day. The only thing different I am taking now compared to then is the Lyrica. I was woozie headed and my stomach was churning. I felt terrible. But after I took my meds that evening it went away.

Also, I am amazed at the bad stuff I hear about Cymbalta. I've been on it for two years and it's not caused any side effects that I am aware of. I'm thankful it hasn't. Strange how medications affect people so differently.

    Re: anyone take Lyrica?

I have taken Lyrica for about 2 years. For me, it is like a miracle drug, I can lift my arms now, have more mobility than ever before! I am so grateful for Lyrica that I cried the day I tried it. I got instant relief, would recommend it if your doctor approved it for you, hope this helps, God Bless, Terry R

    Re: anyone take Lyrica?

I have taken Lyrica for 5 months now. I take 100mg 3 times a day. it seems to have helped my pressure points but if I am active too much I have terrible pain and get very tired. I have constant nausea and am lightheaded, with blurred vision. Have fallen numerous times. Use C-Pap machine to help me sleep and take Provigil during the day to keep me awake so I can sleep at night. Can hardly get out of bed in morning because of pain. Have put on a lot of weight, also. Get depressed but have to plug along. It is depressing not to be able to do simple things without getting sore and very tired. also have pain from diabetes that I have since I haven't been as active. Only good(?) days are when I do nothing. Also was wondering if anyone else is bothered by migraines that start in back of neck and are very debilatating?

    Re: anyone take Lyrica?

    Hi,

I have those horrid headaches. If you are getting no relief you may want to try getting an ablation. I used to get them once a year, for 8 years and rarely had headaches. They severed the occipital nerve, that's the one that goes behind your eye and makes it feel like your eyeball is going to fly out, or the nerve that gives you a headache in bright light. After years of getting those though it didn't work anymore for me. I now have 2 electrodes in my head over the occipital area and it is attached to a battery pack in my lower back, I keep it on 24-7. I still get an occasional headache, but am 80% better. If you wear glasses try getting the ones that tint by themselves and get the anti-glare coating too. Hope this was helpful.

what is a c-pap machine? god I'm so sorry your in so much pain. I'm very sore. This all started for me about a year in a half ago. I had a pain over on my right arm near my breast. and I'm like ok It went away no big deal. then I was on some medicine for my anxiety I can't think of the name right now. After I took this pill within minutes I would have chest pain one day I counted the pain 30 times within a few hours. So I went to the Anxiety doctor he took me off that and put me on XanaX which works wonders for my Anxiety. So after that It started with my stomach It just hurt I had wicked cramps. It hurt inside too. I was in such pain. So Finally I went to a walk in clinic I had a urine test and I had a slight bladder infection. I was put on these meds but I had to cut back on the Xanax I guess the meds I was on for the infection would interfere with Xanax. Well I was a mess because of that I did not sleep for 2 weeks. After I took the meds for 2 weeks. I still had pain and Went back had an exam they felt my stomach one doctor said maybe I had ovarian cysts. A while after that my mom saw a commercial for Fybromalga and I'm like that sounds like what I have. I had most of the sytmoms. So I found a message board and told my sytoms and asked if they thought it was Fybro. They said It could be a possibilty that I should try and find a doctor that specializes in Fybro. Well after that I got a primary doctor at a doctors office she examed me stomach breasts etc, She said I was having the stomach muscle pain. But blamed it on my weight. And said If I lost weight and excerzied I would feel better. I was upset about that bescasue I know I'm over weight. But I just felt that my pain was not all from being overweight. Well I kept reading sites and had most of the symtoms the tender points. Then I started having painful periods. This last one I had around Christmas was HORRIBLE. I had the worse stomach pain ever I actually did not know I had started my period till the next day. The cramps were bad. the next day my lower back was KILLING me. It felt like I just pulled my back out or something. Then my period ended after a week usually They only last 3 days and I skip. But the pain would not go away. I started having burning zaps like spasms but it burned so I found another Fybro website. And then read about the painful periods. So I printed these pages out so I could show the doctor so she could read about it and see this is read. So I made an appointment this was Tuesday. I explained all the pain I had. That I constantly have a heating pad, or ice packs on. That i'm in pain everyday. That there has not been a day in 2 years I have felt good. I gave her the papers I printed out. She did the tender point exam on my back {I really screamed} It was painful because they press so hard into your back. She also felt my stomach that hurt not as bad as the back. She asked me if my knees or anckles hurt that didn't. But I do get pain in the knee caps mostly at night. So she turned around and said to me you have Fybromalga. I could not believe what she had just said. Because the first time I went she didn't seem to believe in it all. I was shocked. I had some blood tests done to rule out Lyme Disease, Ruemathorid arthritis and Lupus. the first 2 came back negative just waiting for Lupus.

One other thing about Fybro is people that have Fybo said they had mono. And I had that in HS.

I have pain medicine but I'm afraid to take it. the side effects are worse then the pain. Kidney stones, gas, chest pain, rapid eye movement. I'm already on paxil, Buspar, and XanaX for Anxiety/Panic attacks they are very severe and the pain meds one of the symptoms is Anxiety I don't need anymore of that.

I wanted to ask everyone. were you in less pain like months ago and then all of a sudden bam? the pain just seemed to hit you all at once? back in July i didn't feel as bad as I do now. Now it's just I hurt all over and it doesn't seem to get better or worse. I read people have no strength in their arms and can't get out of bed. I have heard about people with Fybro in the hospital and muscle biopsy's? what is the reason for that? Will I get worse? I'm so afraid of that.

I'm also on the Fybro diet. No sugar red meat. I'm just eating chicken, rice, fish, cheerios, celery and peanut butter. It's been almost a week. I hope this will make me feel better soon.

Well thanks for reading this is my story!

    Re: anyone take Lyrica?

All this pain just came on so sudden!! I mean for years I've had and still have really bad headaches all day everyday and I get these unually pains all over my body but never thought too much of it. I just thought it was something that was normal and it wasn't so bad to live with. In fact now that I think of it I remember going to my Gyno for my annual check up and mention the sharp pain I get above my breast and he said it's probably growing pains!! Give me a break, growing pains at the age of 30??!! I've been to several specialists for all the different pains just to see if it was something but everthing came back negative. I only thing that I was told was that I have IC (Intersistal Cyctytis) and Endometriosis; so I was okay with that since I could relate some of my pains to an actual problem. But then in August I came down with a SEVERE case of sinusitis; I got a scan done of my sinuses and showed a severe infection in the sinuses and traces of chronic sinusitis meaning that I always have some sort of infection but never knew it. I always felt like I had a cold, glands are always swollen, etc...I had this for over 3 months; my son's very first birthday was in the midst of this horrible infection. I had over 50 people over my house and couldn't even enjoy the party because of all my pains and the severe sinusitis. Since the infection I have not been the same...all of my pains for Fybro came on so sudden so much worse and feel like I always have an underlining sinus thing going on. I went to an allergist (recommended by my ENT dr) and I have allergies indoor/outdoor. Now I take allegra-D daily; I also developed acid reflux. I always have this "gunk" feeling in my throat that I feel like I need to clear or swallow and the ENT dr said that it's probably acid reflux! He said to take Nexium everyday and by 6 weeks if it gets better then it's probably acid reflux; well it helped and it helped with some of my upper stomach pains also. All these years I probably had it and never knew.
What really upsets me is the fact right before I got pregnant with my son I was in the best shape of my life!! I had lost 25 pounds and was nicely ripped; I loved it. I got pregnant and was scared that I'd gain a lot of weight; guess what I did. All along I probably had fybro because with the pregnancy I always had my headaches and everything else but couldn't take anything; I was the most miserable those 9 months. This was my second pregnancy; my first one was a breeze, I didn't have all these pains back then. Needless to say I gained a lot of weight (50lbs) to compensate for my pain. I had my son and only lost 20 pounds! I'm fighting to get these 30 pounds off almost a year and a half after my son was born. I didn't have this much trouble losing the weight with my daughter. Everytime I workout like I use to; I get these HORRIBLE headaches midstream of working out to the point I can't continue to workout; every step I make feels like someone is pounding my head. Then afterwards I'm so extremely tired, sore and headache for days. I use to think that the soreness was from working out but it use to only last a day or so; now the soreness will last a week. I like to workout really hard on my legs (squats/lunges) and when I would do them (since having fybro) I will be so sore to the point of not being able to walk or climb steps for literally a week; it wasn't like this before. I'm tired of carrying these extra 30 pounds so I'm going to have to suck it up and workout even though; I don't want another summer to come and go and not be able to wear my clothes or bathing suit. My closet if full of my old size with new clothes since I thought I'd get right back into my size after the birth. I had to go out and a few things for my current size but that's all I'm getting; I'm not giving myself an excuse to stay at my current weight. It's not acceptable to me!! What's pushing me to do this is my sister; I'm an identical twin and she's so fit and exactly how I want to be! Right before I got pregnant we were both so fit together and we could wear each other's clothes; not forget it! She said to me the other day that she's so surprised at me that I haven't lost the weight from the pregnancy yet. I don't mind her saying this to me; I'd rather her say it to me and be honest than me going around thinking I look fabulous when I don't. I know what I have to do it; it's just doing it and doing it through the pains. I'm hoping that maybe if I lose this weight, maybe some of my pains will go away!!
My point is that my quality of life had drastically went down hill over the past 6 months. I have absolutely no energy and always in some sort of pain. Yesterday I finally felt okay by 3:30pm; it's like a fog lifted off of me and I was my normal self!! It took literally all day to feel this way. I feel like my day had just begun; I was alive, full of energy and somewhat pain free for a few hours. This is how it is for me a lot of days and I can't stand it anymore!! I feel like I'm 90 when I get like that. No one really understands what I mean, they just say they feel bad!

    Re: anyone take Lyrica?

sounds just like me. Lost 150 pounds from 2002-2003 and worked out every day after work. Now i have put 75 pounds back on. I ride a stationary bike 6 miles in my home now and that makes me dizzy and sore with blurred vision and tired.
