Wrist Surgery...I'm so SICK of Operations..

Okaaayy...I was counting all the surgeries I've had and I AIN'T HAPPY..

I don't have to many parts left...I know I know this is surgery to take Arthritis out of my wrist but it is still the knocking me out part..

Actually it's two surgeries in one....take out Arthritis and then take a Tendon out of my forearm to rework into Wrist...

I keep putting the surgery off and my wrist is getting worse and worse..I guess I think it will get better on it's own but it won't

Dang...I'll let y'all know when I get brave and fearless once again (which is soon) and have the surgery..

Happy Saturday All and Be Well.

    Belle~

    hi belle,
my mom says the older we get the higher the numbers of everything we experience. i quit counting the surgeries and procedures. the induced sleep only scared me the first time. i was 17. now it is my salvation when there is something that i feel must be taken care of.
in a way you are fortunate. your insurance will allow you this choice. mine will not. just drugs. go figure?
sending you healing energy, a giant redwood tree full of buckets of energy. grab all you want.

Re: Wrist Surgery...I'm so SICK of Operations..

Hi, Belle. I have trouble with the “knocking me out” part too. On the one hand, I do wake up (and that’s the important part… right? ) and the problem is – presto! – fixed (with a little rehab). On the other hand, - and NOT to scare you ‘cause YOU know every one reacts differently to meds – but I coded once from anesthesia (and have trouble with it of one sort or another pretty much every time). When I coded I thought all those people were rushing to help the lady across from me who was yelling for help – if I’d been in my right mind it would have freaked me out! Kwim?

I too am facing a wrist surgery. I go next week to get an MRI to find out. Oh, nothing like yours… “just” carpal tunnel surgery… but, heck, surgery is surgery… right?

I hope you get your courage up and get it taken care of… just think how much better off you’ll be when it’s all better! Good luck and best wishes!

Re: Wrist Surgery...I'm so SICK of Operations..

ngtstrm...I had Carpel Tunnel surgery a few years back, then scar tissue developed and I had to have another surgery to remove that...THEN I had major major Shoulder surgery all on the right arm...my had feels numb a long and it feels like I can't stretch my fingers..then I sneeze and the electrical currents start flying..that is when I know I have feeling left..

Arthritis is to be cut out of Left wrist...Tendon taken out of Left forearm to be reworked and replace whatever is taken out of my wrist...

What really bothers/scares me is that I've had so many surgeries and I've read and heard about the Anthesia(sp) being more harmful to the body each time...I just get...well...apprehensive(sp AGAIN )

    Surgeries

Tonsils out at 4 years of age (Fibro is related to Tonsils being removed from what the so called 'experts' are sayin'..

Blood Poisoning in Left leg that had a hard time recovering..

Ruptured Ectopic Pregnancy ( Blood Transfusions...another Fibro relation...according to 'experts'..

Surgery for Scar Tissue Removal from surgery for Ruptured Ectopic Pregnancy..

Get this....AFTER surgery for the Scar Tissue I go in for Pap...it came back NOT good...I had 3 more Pap's (just to be on the safe side) all came back not good..Soooooo

I had a Hysterectomy (Cancer behind my Uterus)...

Went for 3-1/2 years fighting Doctor's over my Gall Bladder which was killing me and finally had to resort to threatening Suicide...(I had every test know to man on my Gall Bladder and all those tests said it was find...(ROLL EYES HERE)..this is ME...YOUR STUPID TESTS DON'T WORK ON ME DOC'S..

I had to sign off on an Agreement that after the Doc's took out my Gall Bladder that I would seek Psychiatric help because the 'pain would still be there' according to a top Shrink in the area...

    (They operated....I'm fine...no pain since..go figure)

Foot surgery...was told for years I had a Planters 'wart' on the bottom of my foot...I had 4 -5 minor surgeries on the bottom of my foot to remove it...
the surgeries didn't work..sooooo...(AND I'M AWAKE FOR THIS ONE...

I'm totally numbed up and a 'specialist' cut a bone out of the top of my foot so I could walk without hitting the plantersW...

I will never forget the smell the look the blood...my then husband sat in the room reading a magazine the entire time..FREAKED ME OUT but I didn't feel a thing and now it seems I have something in the same place on the bottom of my foot coming back...uh-huh...lifes good...

I can see why people like us who have lots of surgeries would have Fibro problems...our bodies are not designed to be cut on constantly but they're not designed to be 'broken' either...danged if we do..danged if we don't...

Anyway I'll stop..shoot...i'm tired of writing...

(((Gentle Hugs to All))) and have a nice painfree day..

    Belle~

Re: Wrist Surgery...I'm so SICK of Operations..

Good grief, Belle honey! No WONDER you don’t want any more surgeries!! (Well… not that anyone in their right mind would actually WANT surgery if it could be prevented, if ya know what I mean, but then again… what do I know? )

    Quote:
I was counting all the surgeries I've had and I AIN'T HAPPY
OBVIOUSLY, you are a woman of sound mind and good sense!! And now I can certainly see why you said this! I’m right there with you, Belle! Not just for major medical procedures, either. I need a bridge replacement and, guess, what??? that's right... yet another round of anesthesia because - with my total dentist phobia - I have to be put out for it. As a local colloquialism goes… after all you’ve been through in your life, another surgery “wouldn’t make me none too happy neither!”

Now gosh darn it, Belle! Why’d ya have to go and mention the carpal tunnel surgery!! :giggle: Just kidding, sweetie. Do you really have what feels like electrical currents going through your right arm/hand? My problem is my left forearm/hand and sometimes it does feel just like that! (Pain and numbness in my left hand is what caused my first surgery – fusion of C4 to C5 vertebrae from herniated disc.) Mostly right now, though, I’m having… I guess the closest thing I can call it is a “cramp”-like feeling in the right over the carpal tunnel area… also the forearm (top and bottom), the top of my hand, and both sides of my palm… does this sound familiar? Is this what you went through before your surgery? I sooooo want this to be “nerve strain” that will heal itself soon… I KNOW you know what I’m talking about… anything that means NO SURGERY… right?

    Quote:
Arthritis is to be cut out of Left wrist...Tendon taken out of Left forearm to be reworked and replace whatever is taken out of my wrist...
Honestly, it’s news to me that arthritis can be cut out… is it RA? I don’t think they’d try this for OA, but anything’s possible…

    Quote:
What really bothers/scares me is that I've had so many surgeries and I've read and heard about the Anthesia(sp) being more harmful to the body each time...I just get...well...apprehensive
Amen, sister! My husband is always worried over this issue. Personally, yes, I worry about the effect all that anesthesia has had on me. But I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to go through any of those procedures without SOMETHING to keep me still enough that the likelihood of a “slip of the knife” was greatly lessened because I wasn’t squirming around due to pain. Got enough doctor-trust issues going on as it is… Don’t know what else to say ‘bout that!

Now, I gotta say… we’re not in competition over, like, how many or what kind of surgeries we’ve had… but we’ve had so much in common, I just gotta “compare” them so you can see how much we DO have in common… and, I guess, what we don’t… surgically speaking! I really just couldn’t resist…

    Quote:
Tonsils out at 4 years of age (Fibro is related to Tonsils being removed from what the so called 'experts' are sayin'..
Well… I suppose there’s always an exception… I have all my parts, including my tonsils, except for the female ones (total abdominal hysterectomy and ooverectomy, i.e., they took both ovaries, too). Okay… to be technically accurate, I still have my cervix and one fallopian tube that was too adhered to my bowel to chance cutting it out… anyway, I’m not too sure about the tonsil theory, as I still have mine…

And oh, yeah… that’s another lovely discovery, btw… apparently I was born with some of my insides adhered together (in doc-speak, adhesions). My OB/gyn told me that with my insides, she wouldn’t have ANY abdominal surgery that wasn’t required to save my life (as my hysterectomy was). Nice, huh? Not only that, but I had the female equivalent of an “undescended testicle”… she (my OB/gyn) had to cut my right ovary out of my abdominal wall, where it had been hiding behind my appendix all these years… go figure…

    Quote:
Blood Poisoning in Left leg that had a hard time recovering..
Well we got this one in common, anyway. Had septicemia twice, toward the end of 2006. Once from E. coli. - you know, that bacteria that normally, rather benignly, lives naturally in your urinary and digestive systems – because a kidney stone had blocked my left ureter and the pressure of all that… uh… fluid backed up into the kidney and let the little “beasts” flow BACKWARDS into my blood stream. Second time was from staph because a hospital didn’t carefully clean their instruments before using them on me and they were contaminated. Nearly died both times.

    Quote:
Ruptured Ectopic Pregnancy ( Blood Transfusions...another Fibro relation...according to 'experts'..
    .
I had a Hysterectomy (Cancer behind my Uterus)...
    No pregnancies, though a possible miscarriage. PCOS took care of that for me and then age and hysterectomy took care of the rest. But no cancer as of yet, thankfully. I’m glad you made it through this one! {{hugs}}

I can empathize with this frustration. I haven’t had to go this far – for which I am grateful – but it took 6 doctors about 2 years to figure out that little adhesion problem I told you about before. That led to a laparoscopy that they told me “you’ll be fine within a few days”… it only cost me three months out-of-work and another hospital stay to recover from pain spiraling out-of-this-world-much-less-out-of-control!

I’m not sure what to say about this one, Belle. In all seriousness, YOU are one SUPER-TOUGH lady! They wouldn’t have had to give me anesthesia for this one… if I got to my husband first before they started, I’d be in jail right now ‘cause he’d have been on his way to the morgue! (Reading a magazine… HAH!! Take that imprint of People magazines front page with you to your grave, sucker! LOL) If I didn’t get to him first, and they started on me with that bone removal stuff… I’d have passed out and not needed it anyway!! :my ghostly pale face with glowing green gills: How could you stand it?!

Absolutely!! With several rounds of “Hear! Hear’s!! It is difficult to find a “happy medium” for a body broken in so many clever ways that it still “looks” normal (whatever that is). And to end up with that hopeless feeling that says – “I CANNOT do this, and yet I MUST do this thing!” There is much heartbreak in that isn’t there, my sister-in-pain?

    Quote:
Anyway I'll stop..shoot...i'm tired of writing...
AMEN! I guess I’ll stop writing too… it aggravates my wrist and arm something “lovely”!

You too, Sweetheart. You know all you need to know to get this done – you are one very gutsy lady and your courage will come back to you as though it never left… since it really didn’t leave you… it just got buried under some other stuff that should be thrown out before we can go forward.

Hope I’ve made ya laugh a little, feel a little comforted, and let you know I care. Take all the time you need… in aggressively pursuing a state of “permanent get well”. Wishing you all the best and (other than the two five gallon buckets I’m taking home with me) all the cheer and hope from Blue’s tree… they work, ya know, so suck it up… (I’m getting my buckets outta here!! Send me a friend request, an email, a PM, or a post and keep me posted, my friend. Bye for now!

Re: Wrist Surgery...I'm so SICK of Operations..

ngtstrm...sounds like we two of a kind ..

Now to finish from yesterday (I have to laugh or I'd do something drastic).

After my Left Wrist is Operated on...then I have to have my Right Wrist done..the pain is in one place..like being stabbed with a butcher knife and the knife isn't pulled out...there is no electrical current, no numbness, no traveling pain..the pain stays put...I had 3 Cortizone Shots in my Thumb...IN MY THUMB and 1 in my Wrist OUCH...they were tearful moments no doubt

My Hysterectomy...I have one Tube left and guess what??? Yep, it has a CYST on it and once a month I'm in serious pain so I guess soon I will have to have it removed...that is my call..I'm taking my time on this one.

I will need a Hip Replacement and a Knee Replacement, maybe both Knees as my Right Knee is acting up

I may have to have a Metal Plate put in my Neck due to Degenerative Arthritis and I have Scoliosis in my LOW back (go figure...why couldn't I be like other people who have it in the center...low back is worse to work with

Tomorrow I start Cortisone Shots in my Neck and Shoulder...I hate them..they HURT..

I really think that my Depression comes from my health issues...I get so upset 'inwardly' knowing I have to go to a Doctor, knowing I have get shots, knowing I have to go to Physical Therapy...well YOU KNOW

Anyway Sweety (((BIG GENTLE HUGS FOR YOU SWEETY))) and I will email you and of course please feel free to email me anytime.

    Take care.

    Be Well All

Good girl!! Keep that sense of humor… sometimes I think that’s all I have that ISN’T broken… maybe warped a little, but not broken!

I don’t know who came up with the idea that cortisone shots are helpful… probably some secretly sadistic torturer, disguised as a medical specialist! LOL Seriously, though, I’m so sorry for all your pain and trouble… you seem to be between a rock and a hard place in dealing with your hands! I had one of these shots in my left knee one time… ONE time because it hurt so much for the shot that I’d rather deal with the OA in my knee… kwim?

Take all the time you can on this one. I don’t know your age, but if you’ve been through menopause already, it may not be a big deal… don’t know about that. I hadn’t been and I’m still reeling from the issues this has caused me.

Yep, I DO know what you’re saying and, though I haven’t yet dealt with most of these issues, I’ve got a good imagination! One of my elder sisters had to have both hip and knee replacement – at age 42! They just disintegrated… scary, huh? I’ve got a curve in my spine also, but I don’t have an official diagnosis of anything that I know of… if you look directly at my back, it makes a backwards “S”, from neck to tailbone… strange, huh?? Already mentioned what I think of cortisone shots, so ‘nuff ‘bout that! :giggle:

And, as I may have mentioned before, I must just have a sign somewhere on my forehead that says “DEPRESSION – MUST TREAT”, ‘cause nearly every doc I see wants me to go on AD’s whether I “score” depression on their ***** little tests or not. And, as far as I’m concerned, with all that’s wrong with me/us, we have good reason to be depressed. BUT, we’re strong women and fighters… give us a little time to pull ourselves up by the bootstraps, and, THEN, if we can’t climb back out of the well on our own, WE’LL ask YOU for some help. KWIM? (Maybe I’m just too prideful… can’t really say I’m not, in all honesty! )
