    would fibromyalgia cause this?

Hi, ive been in la la limbo land now for 5 months with a whole range of weird symptoms.

Main symptom is pain which crops up in all parts of my body at different times, however my main pain is in my upper back, ribs, underarm, and I get a lot of numbness in my left arm, I also itch in these areas.

I have many many symptoms overall, and though I feel that fibro could be a contender, certain symptoms such as my pupils are different sizes, band sensations, pressure in the head, weight loss, and all my bones crack, im not sure if these symptoms are related to this condition?

MS is another possibilty, however Ive just recently had a brain and spinal MRI which were both clear, and all the specialists ive seen have told me I have to many symptoms for MS in such a short space of time with no sign of any remission.

Can any fibro sufferers out there shed any light on this matter, The not knowing what has happened to me has left me in a terrible state.

    Littlehutton:
I have been in the same boat as you except this is going on for almost five years. I just went to a new reumy and had tons of blood work taken. Don't have results yet. I have already been to two others and have no diagnosis. I have been suffering with some joint pain and upper and lower back pain. The upper back pain sometimes feels like burning pain as well as muscular. I also have pain under my arms when i press in the middle. I also have been suffering with tingling on top of my head and neck pain. I have been to also two different neurologists and had mri's taken. Nothing there except a herniated disk in neck. The tingling is off and on all day. I also have digestive and stomach issues. I have a problem with feeling like my balance is off. It is not it just feels like it is. My newest problem is that I have shortness of breath. I am having trouble getting what they call a cleansing breath. I also have some rib pain like you but more pain in the upper stomach into the chest. Also chest pain. Cold like symptoms also and tmj stuff. The list goes on. It has been almost 5 yrs worth of stuff. Can't remember everything at one time. Oh, that reminds me, my memory is not as good as it used to be. I am 52 years old and also in peri-memo which probably is not helping. I have had a full pulmonary workup and cardio workup and gastro workup. You name it, I have had it. It all started with a virus that never went away. It evolved over the years into different symptoms. I had no energy at the beginning. Could barely get out of bed. I pushed myself with great effort. I don't have that problem anymore, but i suffer everyday with all these other stuff. I get no answers anywhere. I have gone to every dr imaginable, including natural drs that i have spent a fortune on. Literally thousands of dollars on them plus supplements. I am still suffering. Now the breathing thing is the latest and i am very uncomfortable with it. I have hardly a quality of life like this. I am so unhappy all the time. This has created a big problem in my relationships in my life. I am chronically unwell. I don't know what to do. Do you have any of these other symptoms that i mentioned? LaLa

    Hi LaLa

Thank you so much for your reply, I was astonished to hear you have been suffering like this for so long, its been 5 months for me, which has been quite frankly long enough, but 5 years is just unimaginable. I have many symptoms like you describe, the list is as follows:

    Vertigo
    Nausea
    Weight Loss
    Knee, toe, leg pain
Back, neck, arm and rib pain
    Pupils dilated to different sizes
    Tremors
Tingling, itching, burning all over entire body
    Hives
Numbness in fingers, toes, left arm, face and from waist down
Gastro reflux problems, feeling of choking
    Constant sore throats
    Swollen glands
    Stiff neck
    Chest pain
    Stiff legs
    Cracking bones
Tingling and pressure in my head
    Rapid heart beat
    Breast pain
Tightness in neck like being strangled
Pins and needles in legs, feet, arms and hands
    Eye pain
Tingling, prickling crawling feeling on face, neck and chest
    Shortness of breath
    Night sweats
    Fatigue
    Headaches
Band sensations around abdomen, chest and head
    Bruising really easily
    Twitching hands, feet and eyelids
    Swollen eyelid, left side
    Cold wet sensations down legs
Light Headed, off balance and out of body kind of feelings

These are most of them I can remember, but there are more to speak of, they all come and go in waves, my only consistent symptom which has never gone is a deep bone pain in my back on the left under my shoulder blade, this tends to flare up into my shoulder, arm, underarm and ribs, my ribs feel swollen at times like im holding something under my arm, this is all accompanied by extreme burning pain like you could not even imagine. It also Itches a lot. My heart beat like you is constantly fast, and the strange sensations never ever stop on a daily basis. I can't actually remember what it feels like to be just normal. I used to be a very active person, I was starting to renovate my house and garden when this all started which has now come to a complete stand still. I have 2 young boys, age 6 and 1, and 6 weeks ago I hired a nanny to help out at home as I just couldn't cope any longer. I spend most of my life in bed in terrible pain and discomfort frightened to death. I have never been a bitter person, but I feel so bitter that this horrible mystery illness has completely destroyed my whole life, and that of my family, it has put a strain on my relationship to, though my husband has been wonderful throughout and done everything he possibly can.

I have seen many specialists since this began, including neuro's and reumy's, had loads of blood tests, MRI's, xray's but nothing has ever shown anything. My reumy will not diagnose me with fibromyalgia as I don't have all the tender spots, and as for MS, there is no clear indication of this either. I research everyday and night and am constantly consumed by this mystery. Have you ever been tested for Lymes disease? I have had a basic blood test for this which was negative, however after researching I am led to believe that these can bring up a lot of false negatives. I have pushed my doctors to re-test however they just dismiss me. Ive been treated for anxiety (yeah right!) and been given pain meds which do nothing to ease my pain. The only tests I have not yet had done is a bone scan, which im currently waiting for and a lumber puncture, have you had either of these done yet? So im holding out for these tests, and praying they come up with something, I know before long I will run out of tests to have done and come to a dead end, I have no idea what im going to do then. Im so sorry you are going through this as well, it has been such a comfort to find these boards and know I am not alone, however its so distressing to hear about so many people suffering with these horrific symptoms without any clue as to why. Take care and I sincerely hope you get some answers some day soon x

    Re: would fibromyalgia cause this?

I've had the same problems only instead of the upper back it is my lower back. I've had it for 2 1/2 years.

My dr won't give me any pain meds but instead tells me I'm just depressed. I found out about 6 months ago that I am B-12 def and they said that it would help in about 3 months. I don't see an improvement. I'm taking 450 mg a day of Lyrica but it doesn't seem to help. I just want to know what it is. I'm at my whits end. I hurt all of the time and its comforting to know that I'm not crazy (which I have had dr's suggest) and that other people do have the same issues.

Let me know if the dr's have any clue?

    Hi hurtingtoo

    Welcome to the boards!

I'm so sorry to hear that you have been suffering so, it's so awful knowing that something is wrong with our bodies, and not have any clue as to why.

Unfortunately Doctors do tend to blame all of these things on anxiety/depression when there is no other obvious cause. I'm afraid this seems to be a very common occurrence. I have encountered this many times with most of the doctors I have seen.

You say that you have been suffering like this for over 2 years, may I ask what type of tests have you had done in this time apart from the B12. Have you seen any specialists or had any scans such as MRI's for example?

I would suggest you keep a diary of your symptoms, and see if there are any patterns or triggers in relation to your symptoms, I have done this and it has been extremely helpful.

Unfortunately I am still in Limbo land right now, but on a brighter note I am due to go to a specialized clinic in 3 weeks time, they test for all types of things which your general doctor/specialist doesn't test for, so I am really hoping that something will come out of it. I am also being investigated further for Lyme Disease. Lyme can cause all of these type of symptoms, and many people are misdiagnosed as having fibro, MS or CFS. I don't know if you have looked into this disease, but it is definitely not one to dismiss. However you would need to see a LLMD, as most other doctors know nothing about Lyme.

Maybe you could tell us more about your symptoms and history, so that we can offer you more advice.

Wishing you well, I hope you get some answers soon, and please know you are not alone.

    Hi littlehutton,

I have all the symptoms that you have mentioned, and they occur infrequently but have been occurring for 12 months.

I was wondering how you went with your specialist clinic and if it shed any light on your symptoms.

I have had ECG's, MRI's, Blood Tests, etc with no luck. Also been on meds for Acid Reflux.

Hope all is a bit clearer for you now. I have been trawling the forums finding lots of people with these symptoms, however no solutions.

    Still looking for one.

I suppose its good to know your not alone.

Sorry you are not doing so well... MS would shhow up on a MRI so you do not have that which is a good thing to know. You do not want to end up having MS trust me it is not any fun. You, do have some of things that go with the Fibromyalgia- which also really is not all that good.

    Re: would fibromyalgia cause this?

    Hi DcD

Thank you for posting and welcome to the forum, I am so sorry to hear that you have been suffering for the past year, and I know from experience that being in limbo land can be an awful place to be.

You have come to a good place, and there are many people on the boards with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Unfortunately Doctors today are to quick to discredit us, especially when there is no obvious cause found for our symptoms. I have had many tests done over the last 7 months, and seen many specialists, and because I have mostly clean results, I have been placed under the anxiety umbrella. I am sure you have probably experienced this yourself, along with many others, it seems to be a common occurrence within our diagnostic journey's.

You say that you have had various tests so far, what have you been tested for, and which type of specialists have you seen? What was your first noticeable symptoms?
There are many conditions which can present with symptoms like ours, which need to be eliminated first.

I am currently being investigated for Lyme disease, I have had the test before on two occasions which were both negative, however I have since learnt that these tests are not very reliable. I found a specialist clinic that test for this disease more thoroughly, and can even diagnose you on a clinical basis alone without a positive blood result. When I went there the LLMD (lyme literate medical doctor) felt it was a strong possibility I have Lyme disease. I have re-done all the test's and am now just awaiting the results. So I will let you know what the outcome is.

Perhaps you could also post on some of the other boards such as MS, LYME, CFS, and make some enquiries there.

I wish you all the best, and hope you find the answers you are looking for.

Hyaluronic Acid (bought at the health food store) got rid of the burn. It felt like hot gasoline was running thru my body and burning from the inside out. Also Oxycontin is a big help.

    Hi Spookieboo

Thank you for the tip, I will se if I can get some, worth a try. The gasoline running through your body is a really good description of the burning sensations!

May I ask if you know the cause of your symptoms?

    best wishes

    Re: would fibromyalgia cause this?

Hello Littlehutton. I suffered with most of your list of symptoms and more back in 2007-2008 and almost died while under multiple doctors care. It took 6 months to diagnose me with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from a tick bite, which by that time had run its course and its damage! I seem to be left with a permanent condition of imflamatory arthritis (non-rheumatoid) in all of my joints and fibromyalgia. My doctor is treating me for a mycoplasma infection with low dosages of doxycycline and alot of supplements. I believe this has helped me to come past many of my early symptoms, but I am left with what I deal with today. If they're piffling about testing you for Lymes Disease, then they haven't even thought of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever!!
