    Allergic to Codeine

    Hello everyone,

This is the first time I am posting to this board. I am having a cheilectomy for hallux limitis. I'm doing each foot separately, about six months apart.

I am allergic to codeine, and my doctor has given me a Rx for motrin 800 mg for postsurgery pain. I'm concerned about this. Motrin?? Isn't there anything stronger that someone allergic to codeine can take? I'm concerned that with just mortrin I'll be in a lot of pain.

Any else allergic to codeine? What Rx did your doc give you?

    Thanks, everyone!

I think Motrin should be enough. I had a cheilectomy some years ago, and it wasn't actually that painful. Also wondering if oxycodone and codeine are the same ingredient because oxycodone works great.

Thanks, moviebuff. I don't know about oxycodone. I always thought it was related to codeine -- but I could very well be wrong. :-)

I agree. I think I just used the Lortab for maybe the first day for both of my cheilectomies and then Aleve. But you can ask your doctor about something stronger.
