Torn ankle ligament

I suffered a bad ankle sprain 1.5 years ago. I tore upper outer and inner ligaments. Most of this seems to have healed ok but I am still having pain on my putter ankle and now bottom of my foot. I just recently had a second MRI done and am waiting to discuss the results with my doctor. One question I have though (thought I would see if anyone here knows).

My first mri said I have a subacute tear of the calcaneofibular ligament and now second MRI says I have a chronic tear of the calcaneofibular ligament (it appears all the others are now ok). I am guessing this means this ligament never healed and is still torn? If so does anyone know do they fix this? I do have an appointment in 2 weeks to see my gp for follow up but I was hoping maybe someone would have gone through something like this and knows maybe what I should expect?

Re: Torn ankle ligament

I had an alversion fracture of the calcaneofibular ligament wich means the bone broke with the ligament still attached to the bone chip so the ligament was not torn but it healed in the wrong place so the Dr went in and shorten the ligament ant then put a surgical ribbon over the ligament. I believe it is called the modified brostom operation. I very highly recommend you get to a foot and ankle specialist as they are very familiar with the surgery, I travel 2 1/2 hours to see my specialist. My surgery was the first week of April 2018 I was non weight bearing for 2 weeks then took a week to transition to full weight in a air cast walking boot, then at 4 weeks post op I started physical therapy slow at first and build up slowly. At 6 weeks post op I can go most of the day without the walking boot and an air cast brace in a shoe. I am still not allowed to invert my foot and ankle as to keep from stretching out the repair.

Thank you, I am hoping that my gp sends me back to the specialist. I saw him in dec 16 but after my first mri he said because I didnít need surgery there wasnít anything more he could do for me. Itís been over a year since then and I still have lots of pain and canít run or even walk for very long without it hurting
