Snapping Over Ball of Foot into Big Toe

I do a lot of side hill hiking for my job, wearing burly logger boots. Never had any foot problems until the other day.

In my left foot, the portion of the ball directly below my big toe (medial metatarsal) has become very sensitive to something rolling over it, from the bottom up to the side.

It feels like there is a tendon running along the side of the bone, into the big toe. When my foot is tilted to the side (side hilling), the tendon snaps up on the bone and there is a sudden buzzing sensation in my big toe. There is no pain, just this really uncomfortable shockwave.

If walking normally, or hiking on a trail, there is no issue. Also potentially associated, I've had very mild plantar faciatis in the arch of the foot, off and on, since probably April.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks!
